Same reason you see WAAAAYYY over-priced BIN's on ebay, the seller is just hoping someone is ignorant enough to not only believe their hype and story, but also to not bother checking around on the price.
It was one of the German coins with the swastika on it that you shoud be able to pick up for around $10-$15. Don't remember if it was 2 or 5 pfening (sp?) He preceeded to tell the story of how rare this coin is as they all had to be destroyed after WWII. Asking price was $250.
