searching cents can be a lot of fun. CONGRATS, Erin, on finding your IHC. I've searched many, boxes and have never found one.

And, congrats to the member who found Peace and 2 Morgan dollars. WOW!!

Over the weekend, I searched a box of halves: shut out
100 bucks of customer rolled halves: shut out
6 other banks looking for halves: shut out.

    :(

    Interesting statistics

In roll searching halves, I have found a total of 376 Kennedys with silver content. I have found several walkers and frankies, but for the purposes of this, I'm only counting the Kennedys.

I have kept a spreadsheet to keep track of my finds. I thought it might be interesting to see if my finds corrosponded with the mint figures....and they do, very much so. The only surprise is that my highest year is 1964 which most people know to be silver.

Anyway, I thought you might find this interesting. Are the finds of others along similar lines? Here are my figures, expressed as a percentage of my total finds thus far (376):

    1964: 25.27%
    1967: 25.00%
    1968: 21.28%
    1969: 12.77%
    1966: 9.84%
    1965: 5.05%
    1970: 0.53%
    1976s: 0.27%

The mintages, in millions, and in order are:
    1964: 429+
    1967: 295+
    1968: 246+
    1969: 129+
    1966: 108+
    1965: 65+
    1970: 2+
    1976s: 11+

That's a pretty nice penny box, Erin.
I always circulate in some nickel and penny searches to compensate for dry spells in halves - dry spells in finding halves, and dry spells in finding "keepers."

    Bank run

Went to 18 banks. Only 8 had any halves. $112 including 7 customer rolls. Found a total of 1 1968. Did pick up a box. Will let you know if I find anything.

    Erin

PS Sodbuster: I had no idea what to expect in a box of pennies. Was it a good box because of the IHC, the dates of the pennies or the number of wheats total? Just curious.

    Bonus Box

Wish me a little of Bob's luck! A bonus box has to be lucky right? Haha I was bored so I called a bank in a nearby town that had a couple of halves one time. They said no but they had misordered and ended up with a box of halves. They asked if I would be willing to buy the whole thing. So I sacrificed.)

    I will let you know.

Searched Box of Licolns.. Some wheats.. But just a few.. Rare for this area..
Did get a MS 1961D.. No idea how it got in these rolls but it looks PERFECT..
    I did get a 1956 Canadian Cent..

I was going though a box of items I had a found a roll I had not searched.. It was purchased in a small lot of rolls.. each roll was marked "errors" or "best mint errors"
I thought I had look through them all a long time ago.. Missed this roll I guess..
    It is marked 1966 Doubles/triples..
I have started to search and have found what looks like the '66 DDO Lincoln from Cherrypickers .. It is a hard one to spot.. Picture are VERY bad.. I will try to get scans On my next day off.. Still working on the optics for my Homemade Macro/Micro Camera

    Bonus Box

Well, a little good a little bad. It had a 1 1966 and 1 1962. The only problem is about 2 months ago I "marked" 10 halves just to see if I would get them back. I don't like marking coins but it sure seemed I was searching some of the same coins. The bonus box had 2 of the ten coins that I have now received back for the 2nd time. Oddly enough, three different bank chains have all handled these halves.

Originally turned them in at a federal credit union that uses String and Sons. The first time I got them back was from a Capital One Bank which I hardly ever go to that uses String and Son's. I turned them back into the same credit union and now they show up in a Brinks box from Wells Fargo. Now the kicker is that the three banks are in three different towns. My guess is Bob (we live near each other) may have searched them too and turned them into a Brinks bank.

Guess that means that there are really very few halves circulating (relatively) and the reason we are running dry is we are going in circles. Pooh, do you recognize that watering hole?

Searched 75 boxes since early July. First 25 found silver in 21 out of 25. Last 25, only 5 out of 25 have had silver and best box had 6 lately. Finds lately have been loose coins.

I guess I need to ask the family if we can move to a city lol

    Aggie...

Erin, I think any box with an Indian Head penny would be pretty sweet. I have searched about 13 1/2 boxes of pennies. I have never found one. I have been averaging just under eight wheats per box. I have never found less than two in a box, but a couple of big boxes upped my average (19, 26). I finds lots of 40s and 50s, but I have found a beat up 1910, a couple of 1919, and several 20s and early 30s. I usually find at least one or two Canadians as well.

Tough one for the Ags today. But it could be worse... you could have Craig James' son on your team...

    Pheasants and Half Dollars

On the way back from pheasant hunting on my farm this weekend, I stopped at two small town banks. One bank would only produce $100 in halves from the vault, although I have reason to suspect there were many more... The other bank yielded $300, which was clearly all they had.

From bank #1 with the $100 in halves...
Nine rolls produced one '65, one '83s and two entire rolls of OBW mint state '91d coins, strange as that seems.
    The tenth roll produced............
    7x67
    5x68
    2x69
    1x65
    2x64
    2x64d and
    1x61d Franklin
    Yes, that's right 20/20 silver!:D

Bank no 2 with the $300, well they were all marked and had been someone else's collection - mostly bicentennials, with whole rolls of '74d, etc. The guy did miss one '87d, though, allowing me to complete my set of circulated Kennedys (still missing the 70d, which was not released for circulation).

Worth stopping just for the one jackpot roll, but I sure wonder what was in the rest of bank no. 1's vault...

And by the way... I had two good shots on cock pheasants and missed both....
My only excuse was that I left my 12 ga. at home and had to use my daughters single shot 20 ga, with a pretty tight choke. Still should have had at least those two birds though :-(
