Okay, since we're telling war stories. Zoid has had the following (most recent to oldest): Right hip replacement Left hip replacement Right carpal tunnel surgery Left carpal tunnel surgery Explorative cardiac surgery (nothing was wrong) Infertility "correction" surgery (twice) Heal well my friend. Z
I forgot the kidney stones "procedure." They tried to blast them out using ultrasound. Didn't work. They had to go back in with a green laser to blast them apart. Collateral damage was really fun. Pizzed blood, broken glass, salt rock, and alcohol for a week. That was between the hip replacements. Z
When I went in to have foot surgery they had me on the table and slowly going out. None of the equipment around the table was working. No lights flashing, no blips blipping, no charts charting, nothing. One of the nurses crawled under the operating table and things started working. She told me and the staff that everything was unplugged. The Anesthesiologist, who looked like she was just peeled off a cover of Russian Medical Weekly, apologized for the mix-up. I said "no problem doc, I'm a writer for Mad Magazine and looking for new material". She came into recovery with her cap in her hands asked asked if I was really going to write about that.
I wish you the fastest recovery, @Randy Abercrombie! From this physical therapist, I wish you much luck in any rehab you may have! I have not had any coin purchases from surgical pain medication, but I did buy this from having Wild Turkey one Thanksgiving. Just a prelude: I have a general rule to not have any proofs prior to 1968 in my collection. I was working on Franklins at the time, but was still a little perplexed when I saw this purchase receipt in my Email. Sorry for the photos, I am not good on a good day, let alone with proofs. Proof 68:
Randy, I'm late to this party, but it's a great thread & I hope your recovery goes smooth. So, what I get from this is, you had surgery so you could buy coins??... ....so who's guarding the coin safe @ work???
I have made three coin purchases so far with all this free time on my hands. The Peace dollar was the only arrival to date. The safe at work is bolted to my desk and locked up tight! But I have the key and will be adding to it when I get back to work.
Randy.... get well quickly! And next time you take a pain pill, buy something old US gold. With the prices these days, that might be the only way you do it!
OMG, I can't stop chortling over that. My last subscription to MAD magazine expired in 2018. I bought some old reader copies (and a nice stack of 60s / 70s Playboys) on eBay a few years before that, maybe I'll subscribe again, now that I think about it. You know who's an eternal hot babe? Ursula Andress (aka Bond girl Honey Ryder!) [dog whistle]
When I go in…. I go all the way in…. Should have some old US gold to post early next week. And yes, I was heavily medicated when I made the purchase!
I had my fifth back surgery about 4 years ago. (I was jogging in the early morn and got in front of a milk truck that knocked me down a 30 foot embankment.) Anyway, I was recovering while my wife was teaching high school English. One day she came home while I was on the computer, getting ready to buy a double eagle. Before I could finish the purchase, she had me close out the computer. She took all of my credit cards and disconnected the computer. She was upset that I was making a significant purchase while I was on 30mg of Oxycodone every 4 hours. She told me that she knew I wouldn't make those purchases if I hadn't taken my pain medicine. I am grateful to my wife for teaching me that I need to be frugal while I was home under the influence. My birthday was coming up in a couple of months and I got the double eagle as my birthday present. She's been with me since 1968.
That's very cute and congratulations on such a fine wife. Also, I hope you sued the pants off that driver to subsidize further double eagles and a nice gift for the wife.
I feel your pain, Randy. Having had an 8 hour surgery to repair my left ankle, and spending over a month in a wheel chair and then the pain of learning to walk again, I hope your recovery is without any problems.
I hope you are feeling much better! Getting shut down with Covid was like having surgery. I couldn't go to shows or coins shops. I got pretty handy buying coins over the Internet. I only had to return one item out of many purchased.
