US-Iraq war gold coins "Proven in Battle" Anyone know anything about these "coins"? Excerpt from an article in the December 28 2009 Los Angeles Times about Iraqi civilians who worked for the US government: Hadi spends most of his days in his Arlington apartment, watching Arabic television and texting friends back home. "I lost my leg. My life is broken," he said. "For what?" A favorite possession is a gold coin given to him by a member of the 89th Military Police Brigade after he was injured. Well I have done some searching and I believe what it probably is is a military challenge coin, which means that while it is golden in color, it almost certainly is NOT gold. I have found at least two references to military challenge coins with the inscription "Proven in battle" as part of the design.
I work for Northwest Territorial Mint, and I see an 89th MP Brigade Challenge Coin in our artwork database, with those words on it.
