Probably because neither Ken Potter, NGC, nor PCGS stand looking over my shoulder when I'm searching coins. Ergo, I doubt they've heard about it unless they read this forum.
Bill Fivaz has the coin and is taking it to FUN the second weekend in January for some second and third opinions. I won't know anything until he gets back.
Should that turn out genuine, great and very lucky find from those ebay 'unsearched' rolls. Almost looks like some contamination on the lapel on the obverse, and a few places on the reverse. Regardless of those issues, it's got AU50 details (IMHO), and even if it gets a 'genuine' from PCGS, it's a very nice score!!!
He does......but hey good luck! Hope it turns out good. While i doubt I'll ever get one like you did (real or fake), I did cherrypick a 1914D a few months ago.....
ALRIGHT!!!! Just got word from Bill(who took this coin to fun) that the coin was determined to be the real deal and that ANACs is slabbing it for me! Just wanted to update those who have been following along. Can't wait to post those pics of the holder!
Thanks BHP! You're knowledgeable about these things, any idea what you think it might grade based on the pics?
Zach, Thanks for that link. I was thinking it has AU details, but wasn't sure if whatever is going on in the fields would prevent an AU grade.
Well, congratulation! And then some. I have a question. Why ANACS? Were you afraid that it would details grade?
I'm not good at grading so I went with an extremely conservative grade of at-least XF. I think AU would be a better grade for your coin.
Honestly I'm not sure. Bill Fivaz submitted it for me at the FUN show. I had a message from him this morning giving me the brief details about it, but haven't had a chance to actually speak with him yet. That is a good question though, because he had originally said he would prefer to send it to PCGS.
