DOES ANYONE HAVE THE DETAILS ON THE ONE PESO??????? <SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Georgia; FONT-SIZE: 8pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt">SPECIFICATIONS:
Where did you get it? First thing you should do is weigh it. More than likely it is real. The peso you mention which was minted in .900 fineness silver at the San Francisco mint. The pictures of it are at the back of my redbook ( check the index). They are quite common in general grades. IMO. Jim
Ok, i compaired both PCGS coins on PCGSCOINFACTS.com. They are slightly different on how the date looks. There is an XF-45, and an XF-40.... Mine looks 99% like the XF-40 I also just weighted it... Weight: 26.89
I think that standards allow for a slight variance, which yours is well within the limits, in sorting copper from zincolns they can vary from 3.2-3.1 for the coppers, to 2.5-2.6 for the zincolns, wear can take a little bit off the weight
If you can I'm sure some of us would like to see photos. This is a much counterfeited coin. Just because the weight is on doesn't mean it's real.
Sorry. I dragged this off the web for you. (did you find that camera?) http://forum.filipinonumismatist.co...st-facts-about-the-1906-s-peso-embosed-t5.htm
whitch one of those is fake.... also if he is desribing ways to spot a real one then in the luckiest man alive, if he is desribing fakes in the 23 ways. then im screwed... this looks soooo real
I stand corrected, as the red book did not mention any minted or extent numbers. I am glad you found the info on the net. Jim
1. The first check points for a genuine 1906-S is the straight serif "1" . But beware of a shaven curved serif 1. (Confused on "Straight Sefir?") 2. The second check points is below the serif of the "1" which had a very small protrution when magnified under 10X loupe. (Apperent On My Coin) 3. The third check points is the number "9" which the genuine pieces have a larger and rounder knob. (Apperent On My Coin) 4. The fourth checkpoints is the number "0" which the upper inner loop to the right of the 0 is straight rather than oval. (Looks Correct) 5. The fifth checkpoints is the number "6" which the knob is slightly in teardrop shape rather than round. (Apperent On My Coin) 6. The sixth checkpoints is the die crack line below the right side of the eagle's wing just above the three stick of the arrows. (NOT On My Coin) 7. Check points number 6 is only applicable if the mintmark "S" is lying on the 7th denticles count starting the "1" of 1906. (EXPLAINS, MINE IS 6/7 DENTICLES) 8. If the "S" mintmark is lying between 6/7 denticles, then die crack line is not found below the eagle's right wing. (Apperent On My Coin) 9. Meaning there is two types of die variety found in the 1906-S peso. 10. Be very suspicious if the coin weight is below 26.8 grams. Altered dates usually fall in this category due to heating. (Weight = 26.9) 11. If the weight is about 26 grams or less, then it is an obvious cast counterfeit. Pitting is visible even to a naked eye. 12. Check for the edge. If the reeding is too weak or too sharp to be perfect then put your own conclusion. 13. Also, check for the surface color of the coin. If its unnaturally toned or surface had been altered, be very suspicious. (Looks Genuine 100%) Weight: 26.9
