I am not a guy that has free time to peruse and spend time shopping for coins…. Until now. Had some fairly major surgery earlier this week on my foot. I am not allowed to get up on my feet until after the Fourth…. So, I armed myself with a phone PayPal app. I probably shouldn’t buy coins while I am “lubricated” on pain pills, but what would be the sport in that? Here’s my first arrival. Other than the reed hit on her neck, this is quite a lovely Peace dollar. I have made more purchases and will update the thread as my recovery goes on….. In the meantime, please add photos/stories of your coins that you picked up under non-typical circumstances.
Here is a purchase I made a few months ago when we had a project at work that was very repetitive and long. It had been on my watch list and I finally pulled the trigger after a particularly tiresome day. It took around a month to be delivered from Russia and is now hanging out on an extended visit at NGC. Here is the thread with more info: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/and-the-stan-set-grows-with-tajikistan.379258/#post-7437673
Randy, glad to hear you are feeling better. I recommend you skip the Fourth and go straight for a Fifth.
Hope you get to feeling better! Here's a coin that arrived just a few hours before I had a surgery to get rid of nasal tumors back in March.
Love it @Randy Abercrombie ! I have NEVER purchased coins under duress... I am always of sound body and mind when I make my purchases Glad to hear you are on the mend. FFIVN and I just finished a week of scout camp so I am a wee bit tired. I will try to dig through and find a coin to post tomorrow
Wishing you a speedy recovery Randy Nice coin pick-up, she's a beauty. Happy shopping and beware of late night coin shopping on pain killers. Been their done that and still don't remember what I purchased
Oh I wish…. It just astounds me the goodies that he digs up that he had forgotten about. I offered to help him sort those boxes and bags.
I haven’t found another Double Eagle yet but I have found 4 1/10th Gold ounce bullion coins. Plus a bunch of other great stuff. I still have numerous boxes to open from who knows how many years ago.
Sadly I have sold under duress after an accident. I sometimes wonder which is worse. Buying or selling when you should just let it be. I hope you're doing ok now Randy.
Lovely addition. Happy you're on the mend. You have my address should you tire of those pain relievers . (Just kidding! Unfortunately, i have my own ). My great great step aunt, thrice removed, used to say "buying means healing". Glad you're buying.
So I was digging through coin pictures to find something to add to the thread and I found this coin that I haven't thought about in quite some time. It's no double eagle but it has an eagle I didn't buy it while under medicated duress...but I did buy it while deployed so that counts as some sort of duress Luckily for me, it was in 2015 around when silver was ~$15/oz and I was able to snipe coins on ebay at random end times thanks to being overseas. I paid $5, which was over melt but I loved the design so I figured "Why not?". 1927R Italy 5 Lire
Randy, Get well quick. The Canadian mint anticipated your bad foot and issued a commemorative coin. See the pic. 1/2 ounce silver, 20000 mintage, issue price was C$60. Sold out at the mint. Cal
To be honest, I have spent a little more than normal recovering from my elbow replacement/bones pinned little episode. Internet sure is dangerous thing, huh? I have bought three sestertius, a late 16th century Mexican 8 reales, couple of high grade 18th century British, and a couple of group lots from CNG. Makes me realize how true the old saying is. The only way to save money is by working. Not only are you bringing money in, you do not have time to spend it. Expenses are much higher when not working, because you have time to spend it.
