Princeton University, Department of Rare Books and Special Collections, Numismatics Division - Arthur L. Newman '23 Collection of Aeronautical Medals, Exhibit #1928a

I found this beautiful rectangular medal on fleaBay last week. When I pick something up, I like having a little knowledge on it (after the fact, of course) to add to my personal "catalog" of information. That's pretty easy if the acquisition is listed in Hibler & Kappen, one of the Krause catalogs, or barring those, at least an earlier listing on TokenCatalog.com . . . . .

Sometimes (a lot lately) I pick something up that even with my best Google-Fu, leads to dead end roads . . . .

My latest arrival however, left me extremely surprised when I hit Google looking for more information (there was nothing on this on TokenCatalog.com until I added it earlier today).

Presenting, my first acquisition that is also part of a major university collection! My next step is to find out who this Arthur L. Newman is. I wonder if he is related to Alfred E. Neuman of MAD Magazine fame . . . . .

Whitehead & Hoag put out some amazing pieces for many years. It is a good topic for further research.

This is the last medal they produced in the 1950s.
