The Girl Scout coins will be minted in 2013 and limited to 350,000 coins also , President Obama signed this bill earlier this year :p

I agree this Boy Scout, Girl Scout and FFA is a bit much. Let the Franklin Mint and people do those coins. US Mint should do the NASA 50th Anniv. Set. The Sun is suppose to be a gold coin and the planets will all be silver coins. But NASA anniv. passed 2 years ago and they are dragging the heels.

Not with this CONGRESS! Maybe we can get an emergency bill passed after the 2010 election. I doubt the Dems will be in total control then.;)

They had better put a limit of 5 or less on this coin or it won't last a day. Even with a limit of 5 this coin will sell out faster than the Lincoln did. The Boy Scout fathers that I have talked to are not coin collectors, but they will be buying this coin. Me personally, I think the design Sucks, but I will be buying every one I can get from the Mint with my account and several others.:D

I take it people buy commemorative for the sake of buying a neat commemorative coin. Anyone buy commemoratives as an investment? Ever notice they typically go down in value shortly after they are issued. Look at the Lincoln. Or how about the earlier modern commemoratives? Sure, there are exceptions, but overall, I think the total value of all of them put together would be at a lose. Comments?

I keep at least 3 of every coin that I collect because I have 3 kids and plan on giving them each a killer coin collection some day. I also buy certain others in quantity for short term investment. Example, 2009 Coin and Chronicles, I got my hands on 5 sets and sold them all at $165 to $190 on ebay. The profit from those paid for all 5 sets of Lincoln proof and unc. that I had already purchased. I won't even go into the sale of my Ultra High Relief!:hail:

I can't comment on the investment aspect of coin collecting but you got to remember that a lot of us on CT are collectors & could care less about the investment stuff . Some day I'll pass on my coin collection to my grandkids & let them enjoy the hobby of coin collecting & hopefully in the future they will pass the collection to their kids & grandkids & so on & so forth . Were passing on the history of this Country & the great hobby of collecting coins. You got to remember that not everyone is buying & flipping , not that selling is a bad thing its just not my cup of tea or a lot of other serious coin collectors

I see both points here, You are both right. Commemorative's coins are different to collect than the normal stuff. What's neat about these coins is the different designs and not the same old obverse-reverse every year type coins. I'm wondering if all of these quarter collectors will move up to commemorative's and start collecting these. When I started collecting, Didn't even know what a commemorative was. Now I appreciate them and would like to see these coins have better topics coming out in the future. Some of the ones coming up 2011 through 2014 are political and not historic or desireable. http://mintnewsblog.blogspot.com/2009/11/upcoming-commemorative-coin-programs.html

Such as the FFA, Civil Rights, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts. The rest are fine and just for the record I was a Cub Scout :eek:dd:

I agree! Unfortunately the US mint listens too much to congress and doesn't seem to have any ideas on their own. Also, unfortunately all these public agencies are trying so hard to be politically correct that they forget all about what's really important.

Does it really matter that they have a female on their coin? I don't think they need her since they are supposed to be making a girl scout coin too. What was the point? Oh well, anyways on CoinWorld or one of the other magazines a guy wrote about the US mint and how they lack innovation. Man! He really hit the nail on the head with that article.

You also hit the nail on the head , this coin was recognizing the beginning & the designers really droped the ball on this one & your right the Girlscout coin will be out in 2013 & I can't wait to see a boy on it , yeaaaaaaaa right :crying:

this reply is for pappy-o no it's not odd that a female is on the coin.:rolling: I have been a volunteering in my son's pack and now troop for years he is now working on his eagle project. he just returned from a northern tier camp. and he had a female guide he did not think that was odd at all. she went thru the traing and now volunteers her time in a high adventure camp. camping on the ice.. in a snow dome teaching our your men how to survive in very cold weather ... YOU GO GIRL:hail:. I'm sure when you were a child you or someone in your pack/troop. had a "den mother" volunteer...have a nice day.
