Here are some pictures. Sorry about calling it a nickel in the previous thread. I do believe it is a 42/41, but I would like you're input. I also read something about the R in Liberty being indicative of the misprint, though I haven't looked into that. Should I be worried about the black stuff, or is that just natural?

I do not believe it is a 1942/41-D.

The black stuff is not natural; it appears to be some form of environmental damage.

Cris, Hate to break it to you, but it is not a 42/1 . Keep hunting though, and yes , that is "environmental" damage. Try picking yourself up a copy of Walter Breens Encyclopedia of U.S. and colonial coins. Great Book with many illustrations.

Can't really tell. It looks like there might be something there at the 2 but the picture isn't good enough.

I agree. Better pix would help. From these, it doesn't look like the goodie. Sorry.

The 4 does not appear to have the doubling for an authentic overdate.

It's not the overdate - they are easy to see when real

It's not the overdate - they are easy to see when real in most every grade.

The 1942/1 - D is more subtle than the 1942/1 - P, but this still isn't it. I blew up the pic to 400%, and there is nothing indicating an overdate.

Just for the sake of discussion (because of this thread's age), can you please explain how you came to this conclusion? Sorry, but I am just not seeing it.
