Of course I learned this. I knew nail polish remover was bad when he said it, thats why I had my doubts about this. Yes fingernails have germs. I agree with you. I learned the basics when I was 7. Sometimes I ask questions on the stuff i already know just to make sure

I don't understand why people say cleaning is good. My uncle tuffy who gave me the DMPL morgan said this:
    1) They stopped making PVC flips. False
    2) Jewel luster is good for coins. False
    3) Mylar flips dont contain PVC (Dont know)

reputable dealer says a coin had that mark when it was minted (False) and to use nail polish (false)

I suspect this entire thread is a hoax. I've never seen so much bad information and so many ridiculous comments packed into one place before. This must be how cults get started.

I don't---better look it up and ask some experts---I think it would be hard to tell when the gold and other metal is mixed up to know weather your fingernail is scratching gold or the other metal...that is not possible...
Gold can be scratched and I would bet that it could be done by a fingernail.

And you wonder why people become frustrated with you ?

I am well versed with the Periodic Table. I am also well versed with gold coins - both pure and alloyed. And they can both be scratched with a fingernail. For that matter, any coin - gold, silver, copper, nickel, aluminum etc etc etc can be scratched with your fingernail.

Remember when I told you I would give you facts ? Those are facts !

GCL i told you ages ago that GD is the most knowledgeable guy around here when it comes to gold coins. If you won't listen to him then who will you listen to?

I never said he isn't knowledgable. He is a knowledgeable person and I agree with you.

I didn't agree with him that a fingernail can scratch a coin of any metal, sorry, it just isn't true. This isn't to say I don't believe everything he says!

Do you have any clue that I do listen to him? We used to PM each other all the time at the other forums. He has always helped me. Apparently though, from a post at another forum, it seems like he has given up.

Have you asked yourself why he has given up? Think about it.

LOL this is too funny. Haven't you heard of something called Moh's hardness scale? Gold's hardness is around 2.5 and copper is around 3.0. We all should know that diamond is the hardest at 10.Your fingernail whereas has a hardness of 2.5 to 3.0 at maximum if you try really hard. Conclusion? Gold and copper CAN be scratched. Gold alloy? You should know the story. Gold alloy just got harder in between 2.5 to 3.0. Of course, a steel knife can wreck a gold coin easily - it has a hardness of 5.5 to 6. A gold alloy wouldn't be able to stand against it.

If you don't believe this, you can check wikipedia or other links. Just don't tell me that your book tells me this is wrong or that is wrong. PROPER facts please. If you hate to believe every single word I said, you can always do an experiment, especially the highest raised point. That will ruin your coin easily and if you are to be clever enough, you ought to researching harder instead of asking lame questions. Or unless you have the funds to waste. Add another lame "fact" and I (or someone else) will be here to troll every single one that you make until you recognize that you made a fatal mistake.

Honestly, I am sick to read how you are coming out with ridicious "facts" and by claiming that you know this by adding that you have dealt with gold for so long. It doesn't matter HOW LONG you know, it only matters HOW WELL you know. And to add another fact, you seriously don't know everything. As a keypoint, you didn't even bother to think about or didn't even know such scale existed. If you wondered where those crap came from, it originated from a geochemistry field.

    >>You still have a lot to learn.<<

If you still want to doubt the whole thing, go ahead. Please troll my 3 year study in geochemistry. And if that isn't good enough for you, you can write to my dad who has been in the precious metal plating industry for over 30+ years. And I can bring more people in if you wish to know the real truth.

Hmmmm...so now you are resorting to personal attacks on forum members. Good way to get banned.

Soon there will be no coin forum on the Interent where you are welcome.

Two experts here told you what they know...these guys have collected alot longer than you have and know (If I may put it this way) tons more than you or I will ever know.

Proof has been posted on this thread...if you don't beleive it...I can't help you...you have a closed mind...and in coins...that is a sorry state of mind.

Scientific facts are determined by objective evidence when available. You should try a test I suggested in an earlier post. So far you have ignored this.

    The emery board test
    1. Take a picture of your best looking (in terms of grade) gold coin.
    2. Use it like an emery board on your fingernails for 5 - 10 minutes.
    3. Take another picture.
    4. Post the pictures here. Good resolution please.

If you are not willing to do this and prove your argument, please clam up.
Thanks and have a nice day. I look forward to seeing the results!

Sorry Jim, I think I have to correct you on the quotation. You are leaving room for error when quoting "any metals" where the theme is supposely "gold and gold alloys". Nevertheless, the rest of Jim's lines are perfectly suitable.

Since you have all the answers, stop arguing and scratch the coin.

    Good luck.

Critiscism can be constructive if it is heeded.

    Another piece of advice; Analogy variant first and foremost;

If you look for attractive coins and attractive features on coins and view coins as attractive then you'll find coins of all shapes and sizes attractive. Same with other people if you go out trying to find a nice looking guy or gal and keep you mind open against previous experience and expectations then you're likely to find attractive aspects in lot of people.

Or bluntly put; If you read a post with a negative frame of mind it will come across negative, even if the original writer wrote it possitively. If you look for negativity you'll find it.

By the way this post was written positively.

Read it as advice and not as criticism.
