I don't think there's anything against forum rules, just mine. I'm only kidding you!! :D The interesting part about that is the boiled egg part and the aluminum foil part. I've heard of this technique used before, just not the way he improvised using it. Good ideas for certain. :thumb:

Interesting... it seems this guy has done everything that CT members have been preaching NOT to do.

Nope - never tried it. While the coin is not as tarnished, you still see the problem areas. So while it may look better it is still a visible problem coin. It is interesting reading - never heard the hard boiled egg before.

even though he toned it so it looked older, you can still tell it has been harshly cleaned.

A truely interesting technique. Does it work for women?

I don't like the outcome of his retoning. He would've gotten the same results eating the egg and throwing the coin on top of some rubber bands. There are better ways of retoning silver coins that have been cleaned. The best ones take a little more patence than over night.

Green, Bars close at 5am here. That only gives you like an hour before the sun comes up and all that light.

I have tried the egg trick and was able to get much better results ... I posted pics years ago of my little experiment on the PCGS boards... some thought that the coins would grade.

I just couldnt get great colors.

Actually I think I will try this again today and see if I can get better results with varying the holder the coin is in... I will post pics and a step by step tutorial so others can see how easy it is to doctor coins and what the results look like.

The egg yolk tarnishes he coin because it is high in sulfur. If you read Weimar White's book on coin chemistry he oes mention using the technique.
