Did they have gas bubble in 1957?

    Hello all,

Came across this coin. It seems I've found a lot of gas bubbles lately, and wanted some input on this coin; 1957 D Lincoln.

Is this a gas bubble or something completely different?

    Thanks,

    Chas.

Edit: Yep, I've figured out how to use MS Paint, LoL.

What you are seeing on your coin are not the gas bubbles you found on your memorial cent. The raised areas you see on the wheat cent are die cracks caused by fatigue of the metal in a worn die that leaves depressed areas on the surface of the die and, on your coin, raised areas on its surface. The letters and numbers are more often involved because they were engraved into the die and are some of the more fragile high points on the struck coin.
I do not know if this helps, but I had to give it a try.

    Hey Jean,

Oh it helps a LOT. Knowledge is always very helpful.

Thanks for taking the time to explain.

Mainly die chips straddling narrow die cracks. FYI, letters and numbers were not "engraved into the die". They are hubbed, just like the rest of the design.
