2006 D cent error?

    Hello all,

Was going through one of my rolls a few mins ago, came across this 2006 D cent.

Now came across one fake 1944 silver penny and have since learned my lesson, (*sniff*). But this coin is completely different and is very detailed (my scanner sucks). Also the edges are the same color.

Any idea what happened with this or how? I've been searching online, but can't find anything.

    Thanks

I was searching through some coins that I set aside, and thought I'd give this a try again just to settle the argument in my head. I took some better pics this time, although still not as good as the naked eye can see.

Could someone chime in so I know for sure if chemical or mint so I can toss it in the bag for exchanges or not.

    Thanks,

    Chas.

Edit: I'd rather look like a fool on here (as I'm still new to this) rather than spending the $$ to send this coin for grading when its nothing.

    Thanks again.

I would toss it. This one is not a very nice example of one with the plating removed. I have a certified unplated cent and one that had the plating removed. The certified one has nice luster and the other one is dull. There are alot of these floating around with the plating removed. They pop up on these forums now and then. Unfortunately, as more people learn to do this the number will only increase. Be careful to not only look at the luster. I have heard the experts comment on the forums that there are some unplated cents certified that are questionable. If you find one with luster it has a possibility of being genuine.
