Guys I know I keep hitting you guys with a coin as I understood that they took all the small dates out of cirlation right when the 82 hit it was like the 1960 and the 1970 people went crazy over the small dates there worth more. Well I have found all kinds of these coins from bad shape to very nice pulling them write out of rolls so I don't get why are they so many now when they act like finding a 82 small date of anything was a big deal I would be afraid to say how many I got I use to write them down every time I found one. I got to over a thousand and I give up and that has been for ever ago I got a couple nice ones some were that will hurt your eyes when you look at it it's so bright beautiful coin want find them no better.

There are 7 known business strike varieties of the 1982 Cent.
They are all normal. Nothing really special about them really.

But I can goggle about theses coins Paddy Man and all they talk about is the small dates no matter if it is copper or zinc I mean they got these coins blowed up about it. Padday Man when was the last time you been on ebay have you seen the prices on some of these small date 82 crazy they don't look no different than mine why is that. Why is the price on these coins so high are they really trying to get people own like that if so that is a scam should be able to do something about it. I don't even like getting own there I'm wanting to buy some old indian head pennies but afraid I will get took some times they will have some good deals can you send me too the right people to but indian head pennies I'm not going to find them out in cirlation so I would like to buy about 50 different dates and types if you know someone.

@Bentley carpenter, I think what you may be reading about with small dates is the ultra-rare 1982 D Small Date Copper, the one missing variety from @paddyman98's graphic above.

I believe the last (only?) one found was in 2016:
    https://www.numismaticnews.net/world-coins/rare-1982-d-small-date-copper-found

And which is what everybody and their dog (and a couple of cats too) are listing on ebay for thousands of dollars as being the next one. If you find one that would probably make it the 2nd (or 3rd? I forget) one known to exist. Likely it's not going to happen, but it never hurts to keep looking. :) Just don't get your hopes up.

Are you talking about the couple that has been found its a 82 d small date copper penny Denver was not post to make no small date it looks like it would be impossible to make a mistake like that you should not even have the stuff to work with to make that coin if you're not even going to make any so you tell me how in God's world did a mistake like that got made . Took years for that coin too just pop up out of the blue after all these years they have to be more some were I may never find it but I promise there are more were there is one there are more. Just like the 43 did even have any idea how many even got made there still trying to say that they are 40 or 50 left I don't believe that there is no way people that don't even know a thing about coins they always ask about the 43 they will never be another one like it in this world what one from Denver got found these are not mistakes they make this happen in the department they know what there doing of course only a couple that is why there worth so much it don't say how many workers walk out the door with theme. There are coins out there that no one will ever see the mint department did these runs buy there self knowing one day it would be worth a fortune and they got one just like the 74 I wish I knew how many were really out there still they ant going to pull this coin out knowing someone will take it they ant crazy.

Sorry Bentley, I need to chop up your post in order to answer. My apologies if I'm cutting sentences in half or missing context.

    Yup

Honestly, I'm not sure which combinations were intended to occur and which just occurred because of chance.

No idea, but I think that's one of the reasons the finding was initially controversial. I notice that even the article was written in a defensive tone - I'm sure Ken probably expected challenges.

Maybe so, but the question is then: what are the odds of finding one?

I seem to recall that paddyman had a list of total Lincoln cents struck over the years, but don't recall what it said about 1943. I'm pretty sure there are more than 40 or 50 left, though. :D

I'm not sure, but I do recall there have apparently been allegations of intentional mint errors and variations created by mint employees for years. I don't know enough about it to speculate, to be honest.
