I think the best I did this year was flipping boxes of the first three '09 lincolns on ebay. I ended up selling two or three of each design. I even doubled my money on a box of 2008 cents this year. Nothing great on the collectable coins this year though.
Holy Moley!! Other than Morgans (and IH cents), I don't think I own _anything_ that's pre-Barber!! And to just _find_ it? Wow . . . Whether or not it's the steal of the year, I hereby nominated it for one of best finds of the year (and, further, I hereby define "find", for the purposes of this honor, as: it came in change or a roll at face value)
That's very cool, by the way. I'd have fallen out of my chair finding something like that. That age and condition, to cool. I got exited finding Walkers in half dollar rolls. :thumb:
Not the most incredible steal but I bought a little over 1000 cull wheaties from my local dealer at 60 cents/roll. After getting them home I found many were not cull at all but just well worn. Lots of 1909, 1909 vdb, and other better dates in the lot too. Haven't finished going through them all yet
I believe in both! Just as someone else said earlier, my only "steal" was a Lincoln C&C set that I bought and sold, if that counts.
I second that BNB. I don't think certain people have read the code of ethics; Coin Talk Code of Honor 1. Post unto others as you would have them post unto you. 2. Keep it clean, like a 1950s family television show. 3. If you don't like the coin, don't trash the person. Read more: http://www.cointalk.com/t84677/#post767143#ixzz0aXLv9dHP
My steal of the year... a 1922 no D strong reverse for $.03. The picture is horrific, but, all I have atm.
Easy for me.....finding the first 2009P dime, having folks on CT convince me to put the CIRCULATED dime on ebay and getting $48 for it.....then finding many more making sick profits on it.
I bought a decent sized collection. Included were roughly 500 wheat pennies in envelopes and various containers. The seller and I eyeballed the coins and agreed there were roughly 500 there. My offer on the wheat pennies was three cents each as I assumed they were all common. When I started going through them I found the '22.
Here in Huntsville AL I have only found 2- 2008-P Dime 1 08-P nickle.2009-P only one roll log cabin cent and 1 roll of 2009-P DC quarters
The real steal was in how much fun I had attributing & grading the old collection. This past summer, I bought an album containing 96 Morgan dollars for $13 a piece. Many were AU but more than 50% were MS62/63 coins. The first day I spotted a double mint mark. There was a C mintmark clearly separated horizontally from another C! It was an 1878-CC. After more searching, I found a long nock 1878 and about 12 other really nice VAMs. Those 12 coins are worth far more than I paid for the entire lot. The real steal was in how much fun I had attributing & grading the old collection.:eat:
OOOOh, it would have to be the barber dimes I picked up this year a 1892, 1902-O and 1909-O, all MS-62 or better and the 1892 is borderline 65 and I paid less than $100 a coin for them.
