So very sorry to hear what happenend. So often items get stolen or destroyed by the low lifes that are only of high value to the owners. Just glad you and your family are safe.

I think we frequent posters get to know each other's personalities fairly well here even in it is only online. After saying that I'm not a bit surprised the gentleman is doing the case over for the same price as years ago. It is a direct reflection on the type of person you are and how those that know you feel about you.

I hope you don't allow this to interfere with Holiday Season for you and your family.

I must say that I am just AMAZED that they did fingerprint work and CSI stuff. I've had my car broken in to many times and my car stolen once and I have never seen (or heard of) police doing anything other than taking info and writing a report. I suppose that it is a good thing that police work happens somewhere.

Thats terrible. Its crazy how often we hear of coin collectors and dealers getting robbed. It just reinforces my paranoia. Those thieves will steal anything though. Last Christmas someone broke into my sister in laws van and stole all my nephew's presents. But they also took and iron skillet and a blanket, which were worth nothing, except to my sister in laws family who considered them family heirlooms. Damn thieves! I hope they catch whoever stole your stuff.

Sorry too that you lost that equipment but for sure things could be much worse and you shouldn't let that ruin your holidays. Keep in mine how much worses this could have been. Remember that those that broke into your auto knew what they were doing and what they were after. I would suspect they thought it was full of your coins. Very possibly you were followed from a coin show at one time or other. Be thankful those didn't break into your house while you were sleeping and then you know what would have been next.
It happened to a neighbor of mine and he ended up in the hospital.
Your loss is only a temporary thing so go out and enjoy the Holidays.

Again, THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your concern, good wishes, and very helpful suggestions - both on this post and in your pm's to me. I have already contacted a security company who is going to come in and help us decide what type and how much security to get. In addition to light sensors, we are considering possibly setting up some video cameras on the exterior as well. I'm also very interested in that Viper system for my car and am looking into that further. Also, we are avidly looking for a German Shepherd as soon as we can find one.

To be honest, I was kind of hesitant to post my theft story because the experience was upsetting and very frustrating to me, and I was so angry that I just didn't want to think about it any more (my husband is even angrier at these degenerates that they have intruded in our lives like this). But I'm so glad I did post this, because you all made me feel a lot better and gave me some great suggestions to consider. I'm looking at this event as more of a wake up call to beef up our security, and once all that is in place, I know we will rest easier and be able to move on.

Oh, by the way, our local police department just sent out pre-recorded phone calls to everyone in our area notifying them of my theft, what types of things were taken, and how they got into my car (without giving our name and address of course) and asking for help in finding the thieves! This is really great - and I am thankful our police are being diligent in this!

Any way, just wanted you all to know how much I value this forum and your warm wishes - THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

There is sort of a reason for your criticism around where I live about the police doing their jogs. In the Chicago area proper, not including the suburbs, there is approximately 50,000 vehicals stolen per year. Also, usually about 700+ murders, virtually thousands of rapes and so many home invasions, stores robbed, etc. that there would have to be close to a million police to do anything about that. Finger print a stolen auto? Yeah, right. And if they did and if they found prints and if they caught the crook, guess what? He would out stealing you car the next day anyway.
And that is only in the City Limits. Add the suburbs and you really get some crime rate.
The main thing here PennyLady is you should really be happy that nothing happened to you and your family.
Hope they do catch those criminals.

I am sorry to hear this. My house was broken into today as well, but fortunately they did not get my coins.

It's perfectly understandable for you to be upset and angry. These creeps taking something that you worked for and that means a lot to you and then trashing it like that. These people are total scum bags. Makes me wish I were a cop so I could get some of these jerks.

    Take care.

I am really sorry to hear this, Charmy. I am glad the material loss seems to have been minor.
Something similar happened to me some years ago - came home one night to find out my appartment had been broken into - with instructions from the police not to enter the appartment until the scene had been secured.. Lost some minor coins, but the worst of all was that creepy feeling someone had violated the privacy of you home, and gone through all your belongings.

Thank you again everyone for all your concern, support and suggestions. I am very grateful for our local law enforcement. They do seem to be on top of things, even given the limited information they have.

Any way, I am very grateful nothing more serious was taken, and plan to move past this as soon as we get more security in place. Thanks again everyone - and have a wonderful holiday season!!

who steals my purse steals trash, you have integrity, knowledge, and from the testimony of the many people who have dealt with you, you are fair and honest in your dealings with your fellow collectors, they cant steal that.

As long as the coins are safe. The rest of the "accessories" can be easily replaced.

Genuinely sorry to hear about this, Charmy. My prayers go out to you and yours.

    I agree.

I'm sure it was quite a shock to see the car's damage; the initial response is spiritually traumatic.

Once, I had a good friend from Russia visit us in the US. Her husband had visited here for years, but it was her first trip here. She had looked forward to it for years.

It was an awesome spring day here in Texas. Back home in Russia, it was -10 degF, but she was getting beautiful blue skies and highs in the 60s.

We took her up to the top of Mount Bonnell overlooking the City of Austin and the Colorado River. Everybody was totally blissing out.

Until we got back to the car and found they had broken into our car.

They stole her purse. Money. Passport. Visa. Airline tickets. Everything.

It was spiritually traumatic. It was a shock.

My heart goes out to you, Charmy. Hang in there ! All will be well.

I am also grateful to our peace officers, who truly are our friends. :thumb: That isn't true everywhere; in much of the world, the police are as dangerous as the criminals.

I am sorry to hear about this.Hearing about stuff like this really angers me.
You had mentioned they found the showcase on somebody's front lawn.
Did they decide they did not want it? or were these people involved?
I am just curious. I hope they catch these scum.I hate thieves.

I apologize if this was already mentioned,as I have not read the entire thread.
Now that they possibly know the nature of your business, you might want to consider arming yourself with a small firearm, for home protection. A 38 special would be a great choice.
They were most likely just juveniles who hopefully, did not put any serious thought into what they have seen.
I am sure everything will work out fine for you.

Happy holidays to you and your family!
    your friend, Pete
