In my opinion, one I continue to see through my ebay searches is Granny's Vault.. lol.. Just the name makes ya wanna crack up! Come on, do you really think Granny had a vault with the same exact (steal bundles) for a dozen well marked ebay listings??? Give me a break! Here's the link for one of Granny's auctions.. Can you say.. Rip off? http://cgi.ebay.com/ESTATE-SALE-RAR..._Individual?hash=item3efb67a88a#ht_7042wt_939 I hope none of you here actually bid on this stuff. Look at the pictures they use.. They realllly make you feel like you're getting something worthwhile from the vault of Grandma... What do you make of this hogwash? Post some crazy marketed ebay listings you know just give you that knee-jerk "Oh man, this is horrible" feeling! Check out there other listings too. bnb
No, I'm sorry but I can't. With over 4400 feedbacks and a 99.7% rating ...all I can say is excellent entrepreneur. I wish I was as sucessful. Their business plan obviously works for them and their customers. By the way ...you do realize that they aren't reallly selling THEIR Granny's Vault ..its just the name of the store.
I'm surprised you don't get the undertone of the auction or the marketer.. They are making it look like it's FROM Granny's vault just by how they picture the items, etc. I think it's a blatant case of overhyping cruddy products and with a name like Grandma's Vault, it's just begging for laughs in my opinion. We need real grandma's vaults on ebay(joke) bnb
Scam - yes, rip-off - of course so. I just skip all the auctions - there are just to many of them. There was one last night about half-rolls of wheaties. All this information is available to buyers. And I think ebay or somebody offers a course on how to make the font big and the auction wordy so buyers get confused and really do not know what they are reading. Now, at the same time, I agree with hudson james - if the buyers are happy then so be it. Not something I could do, but oh well.
Because there are so many of them, you never know when something might get overlooked. (Read "The Penny Lady"'s eBay story -- short version: the seller didn't notice a variation). Or, something cheap enough that it's worth taking a chance on. Last night I purchased a two-fer -- 1894 and 1909 Indian Heads for $3.50 combined (with shipping). That's a ridiculously low price for those (I think). The auction was so low because the pictures were so awful. So -- it was a calculated risk. If the coins are really really bad, it's my own fault, but the most I lost was $3.50. But even if they both grade to G-4, I got a pretty good bargain -- Greysheet ask for those two combined at G-4 is $16.50 -- and I filled two holes.
Yes - I do look through that section on occasion. And yes there are a few deals - but far and few. And yes you can buy on ebay and break lots up and make money. I find it is just not worth my time to do that. I have bought short runs of IHC in solid G to VF for $13(including shipping). So there are deals, not arguing that. Just not as many as people think - in my opinion. You can just glance thru the lot section and tell most of the rip-offs from the start. And yes I do a lot of searching for varieties on several coins and dates - just not as much as I use to.
I agree . . . it's for fun and for an occasional deal, but definitely not for those who are trying to make a profit. If those coins I got for $3.50 are indeed worth $20 - by the time I put them up for auction, deduct fees, shipping, etc., . . . it ain't worth the time. The Penny Lady story is pretty darn rare. But, for many of us, the thrill of the hunt is part of the fun. My coin budget is very low, and so if I can fill a $15 hole for $3, that makes me very happy . . . even though sometimes it takes hours of bleary-eyed searching -- which I find is often, for some odd reason, relaxing (perhaps because I'm most often doing it when the house is quiet and the rest of the family is asleep) -- and my time is worth more than that!
Heres a good one too. http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200418584107&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
BNB: You don't like it when people judge you when you're selling something, but you judge eBay sellers.
Yea but come on man... these people are despicable liar scam artists. Why turn this thread into a personal attack? We are having fun here..
I think the idea of the listing is really just for fun. Everyone knows it didn't really come from "granny's vault".
this one cracks me up. http://cgi.ebay.com/24k-GOLD-ROLL-O...mQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item3ef093df1e
ebay is a literal minefield of scams. However, I buy a lot on ebay, and occasionally sell. I have gotten burned more than a few times, but less so as time goes on. Best thing you could do is find the honest dealers. One of my favorites is cri4obw, I have bought more than once from this dealer and he is the most consistent grader on the bay I have found. He lists most of his material in a true auction format. You have to know how to judge a coin from a scan, which can be tricky (but useful). The first coin I bought from him was a 38 WLH which he said was a MS65, sure enough, sent it in to PCGS and it came back a 65. Its now in my WLH set. Hate giving away one of my favorites, but hey, its xmas. Cheers Tallpaul000
Where did you get your MBA from again? Its fine to make fun of people and call them names but obviously a lot of folks ..over 4400 aren't laughing. Grandma offers a money back guarantee. If their customers thought they were being ripped off they could get a refund. Like it or not, their business plan is working. Have fun making fun but they are laughing all the way to the bank. Would I buy from them? ..no ..but they still have the right to run a sucessful business in a free and open marketplace even if you personally don't approve of their merchandise.
I guess I should clarify. It's not that the coins in the pic were awful, it's that the pic itself was so awful it was almost impossible to see what the correct grade was. But, the rims looked OK, and dates were full, so I figured they were both at least G-4. See if you agree: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330388820003
I see little difference between the marketing tactics used in these auctions and the ones you employ on your ebay page and youtube page. http://members.ebay.ph/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=bnbcoins "We buy some of the finest coins that we know have upside gain in the future." "you can surely bet the house that BNB Coins & Analytics is here to help serve you!" http://cgi.ebay.ph/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120471194637 http://www.youtube.com/user/BullnBearAnalytics#p/a/4F679DD6FB493E43/1/gRb_zbTDORI
