I just went through my latest box of pennies, only 13 wheats (nowhere near the fantastic box AJ came across), but there were a couple that really caught my eye. A '57-D that has clear die-clash just under Lincoln's chin, looks to be AU, and a '59-D that is very nice, with almost little or no wear, but does have someone's fingerprints on it. The wheaties were a 34-P VF, 40-S AG, 41-P VG, 44-D F, 45-P G, 46-D F, 50-P XF, 55-P VG, 2 56-D (1-F, 1-XF), 2 57 D (1-XF, 1-AU), 58-D VF. Not too bad. I'll try to post pix of the 57 and 59 tomorrow.
I've seen others write about buying boxes. I'm wondering how you do it? When I turn in 10 rolls of pennies at my bank the teller has to find room for them so what do you do with a full box when you are done going through them? Also, how are you able to get them by the box? Do you have to be a member or pay extra??? BTW: I wonder if anyone has ever topped what this guy found 2 years ago: "08-03-03 Chuck HI ALL. JUST WANTED TO TELL YA OF A SURPRISE i GOT. I GOT A BOX OF PENNIES{25.00} AT ONE OF MY BANKS YESTERDAY. just go to the bank and buy a $25.00 box of pennies or more, (you should use your own bank since some have rules about that) then after you go thru them find a coinstar, its an easy way to get rid of them!~~~
I haven't had any problems buying a boxes of coins at any of the local banks here, whether I have an account there or not. A couple of them know me pretty well, and also keep some stuff set aside (silver, old nickels, wheat pennies).
Some banks have started having coin machines right in their lobby, that DON"T charge the 8 cents on the dollar that coinstar does.
Most of the banks in my area will not give you change if its over a certain amount unless you have an account there. And one bank wanted to charge me a fee for wanting 20 dollars in nickles. If you ask me thats nonsense. - jeff -
