I've been getting into precious metal collecting, and that lead me down the coin collecting rabbit hole, which lead me to roll hunting, so I gave it a shot today.

$500 in half dollars. Found a 2007, 2014, and maybe a 1976 proof. Going to get it looked at at an LCS tomorrow.

$350 in quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies.

Pennies we all new 2021 issue, so just a big waste of time there. Found a buffalo nickel, too worn out to tell the date, and an American Memorial Park W quarter.

For $850 worth of coins, about about 4 hours work, I am feeling pretty disheartened. I want to like this hobby, but this was a pretty low turn out.

Any tips in hunting, or finding good rolls from banks? It almost seemed like the halfs I got were already picked through, along with the dimes and quarters. Really slim pickings.

It happens. That is why there is the thrill of the hunt. Every see or hear about the Twilight Zone episode where the guy is in a Casino where he wins at every thing? At first he thought he was in Heaven, but later discovered that he was really in Hell.

Meow was thinking of buying some fancy holders and remembered having a conversation about it here. Meow was thinking of trying out Lighthouse quickslabs, or Coin world slabs. What do members here think about those two slabs? Or any other suggestions? Meow currently uses Whitman snaplocks. They are nice, buts sometime Meow whats to tag them or describe them and those dont have a space to put notes on.

For example a few that Members here have seen from Meow's show and tell here.
    The Washington "Face off" quarter.
    Or the "Jefferson booger" quarter.

All halves have been searched through thousands of times. You only find silver when it's added to the population by people dumping it into the system. Always ask for customer rolled coins.

Yes I could be better. But it could be way worse. As the hand rolled ones may have already been searched by someone already, and you will get ziltch.

Bought a roll of quarters from the grocery store clerk tonight. 32 were WCD quarters. I’ll count that as a win!

EDIT: Just took a closer look, they are D Mint coins. VERY unusual for here in Florida! Very Happy! Will buy another roll tomorrow and see what happens!

That's fantastic! I live about 5 miles (as the crow flies) from the Denver mint and have yet to see a single Crossing the Delaware yet...and I search a lot of rolls! Congrats!!!

Can't you just knock on the door of the mint ask for some?
