Man, oh man..... I have found some cool old stuff. But old coins just seem to elude me. I would be happy as a clam if I were to dig something other than a Lincoln cent.

What detector do you use? I can't remember if we discussed that before. Also what part of South Carolina are you in? I have a buddy who lives in Greensboro NC area and he finds lots of good coins as well. I was just out that way before all this COVID junk started and hunted with him. I am sure he would be happy to take you out to some of his spots. If you are every in Nebraska you can come out and hunt with me and my hunting buddy as well.

96 silvers is awesome! I ended up with 60 last year. I'm off to a slow start this year I'm only at 22 right now. It's been very hot and dry so not able to detect as much.

    Amazing.

I am on Long Island, where are you?

Been detecting since about 1989, found a bunch of Indians, and barbers, only a couple of seated dimes, and only one barber Half dollar.

    You are doing great.

One more. I kind of hesitate to call this a “coin” but I guess it is. Antique Spanish ring with a “coin” mounted. First note the construction. Very solidly built with 8 prongs holding the coin ( when do you ever see 8 prongs?)
The coin is a replica of an Incan calendar BUT look on the inside of the ring at the coin’s reverse side. There is a face peering out.

an archeologist who specializes in Spanish relics has examined it and believes it was made in Vera Cruz and was likely the property of a priest. The face is Father Miguel Hidalgo, THE FATHER OF MEXICO. He led the Mexican Revolution until his capture, torture and execution by firing squad in 1811. The face was likely hidden from view because of the politics of Hidalgo.

Just found my white whale!!! I have been searching for this coin since I was a kid! I still can't believe I found it. I was hunting an 1800's fairgrounds in an area where vendor tents have been setup since 1880's. This coin was only about 3 inches down and it was a solid signal. Normally shallow targets that are solid signals this high are crushed cans or other modern trash. Which may be why others likely passed on this signal. I am soooo happy I dug it. Video is up on my youtube channel as well if anyone wants to check it out link is in my signature. Thanks for looking!!!

Wow, that's fantastic! It's so crazy to think that's been sitting there all this time. I'm so used to looking at Morgans from a collector's standpoint that it's almost strange to think about them being actually used for commerce at a fair. Great find!

One of my co-workers dug up an 1818 large cent over 4th of July weekend. It was in rough shape, but still a nice find.

Thanks! Yeah I have a couple in my collection as well but this is the first one I have found metal detecting. It is crazy to think these huge coins were bouncing around in folks pockets back in the day!

Nice! Large cent is near the top of my bucket list as well. Don't see too many around the midwest especially in Nebraska where I am.
