What is this stuff? UPDATED WITH IMAGE

I recently bought a gold angel from a reputable coin dealer. www.coinvault.com

Here's a picture of the reverse:
    http://www.coinvault.com/i/c3413r.jpg

The dealer told me this is the coin I would get. Look at the 5, it looks clear right?

When I got the coin, it had a black line across the 5, distracting, and it appears to be grease or something. I cannot get it off. Its also on the edge of the coin.

The coin also has an unusual luster, like its been cleaned or something, although I can't tell. Moreso than any modern gold coins I have, and certainly more than in the photo.

Anyone know what this stuff is, or how I can remove it? Do dealers use it to mark their coins?

First of all, I wouldn't even think of trying to remove any thing from the surface of the coin. Sent it back to where you purchased it and get your money back. Surely you didn't buy such a coin without a return policy, so use the policy and send it back. Quick!

You think I should? It's just a tiny mark. I just emailed him again.
Maybe I should wait for a response first

I looked at it under 10x and 30x magnification, still can't figure out what it is. It might be a cut. I don't know

I will try to take a picture of it tommarrow

    no response from the dealer

My dad is going to put it under an ultrasonic cleaner. Water with vibrations.

DON'T....if you already have...kiss that coin good bye and never hope to send it back to the dealer...haven't you heard what we said in the other thread about cleaning...its bad...there is NO good way to clean a coin.

Send it back before you do anything and hope the guy gives you the money back.

GoldCoinLover, I am not trying to flame but all of your posts here are starting to sound like troll bait. You also mentioned getting banned from another coin forum. Have you taken the time to figure out why?

In almost all threads you have started you bring up cleaning coins and in every thread someone tells you NEVER to clean a coin...and then you bring it up again.

I am the BIGEST newbie here and have only just started to collect for about a month now and already learned NEVER to clean a coin. I learned this from READING. Do you think everyone here that has told you not to clean a coin is just joking?

    What gives?

I have to correct you bplinson on one small thing

I think i may be in the running on the biggest newbie award... i have been collecting for over a decade or more, but know next to nothing it seems (after seeing the knowledge on this forum) as to ... well much of anything concerning coins.

    GoldCoinLover --
This forum has some of the most knowledgeable folks i have seen gathered in one place. Always friendly and always willing to help with their volumnes of knowledge. One thing i have learned from this forum - you ask a question to seek the answer - seems simple. When you get an answer form this forum, you have to agree that when its concerning coins, its the real deal. Dont ignore it, dont shrug it off, and for gods sake dont ask the same question in several other threads. Cleanign of any type, shape or form is BAD NEWS. so in your next thread, when you come up with another way that you say you are going to clean you coin, let me beat you to the punch DONT DO IT. After that, when you post yet another thread about yet another way you are going to clean a coin, let me beat you to that punch - DONT DO IT.... are you seeing a pattern.

The folks here know their stuff, and i am sure you got these same answers from the 'other' forum.

When a blind man walks and hits a tree, he knows to use his guide to find the tress before he hits them. When will you learn to use your guide???

First of all, I KNOW its not right to clean the coin. I never said ONCE I was going to clean it in anyway. I said this:
I was going to try and rub it off with my thumb, THIS IS NOT cleaning the coin. The metal is GOLD, if you do this carefully you cannot possibly scratch it and it will not tarnish gold.
My parents told me THEY are going to put it into an ultransonic thing. Which DOESNT clean the coin, they told me this is just water waves which vibrate which doesnt clean it. Either way, I didn't agree to do this.

And when have I just shrugged off your advice? You said not to use jewel luster , which I didn't do. You said not to clean my coin, and I didn't.

I know not to clean a coin, ive been collecting for over 10 years.

Anyway, just so you know, I got a reponse back from the dealer, clark smith.
"I dont remember any black on the reverse. Try
nailpolish remover. Dab it with a q-tip. Dont rub
    hard.

    Best Regards,
    Clark"

You think I'm going to put NAILPOLISH remover on it? Yeah right.

I won't return it. I just wont order from him again. I got it for only 98 bucks anyway.

I've learned nothing here, just the old "DONt clean it' which I wasn't going to anyway.

You know what I'm going to do? Stop asking these stupid questions, people only think I'm a troll.

I'll just have to learn it for myself and never ask questions

First you told us your were going to clean your coin, we suggested not doing so and the results if you did. Then you told us "your dad was GOING to ...", then you tell us he didnt.

I will appologize here, but cant you see how we might get mostly confused, and second a little frustrated??

Dont be afraid of asking questions, just dont make it sound like your going to do something that people have repeatedly suggested not doing....

Collecting coins/currency is a FUN hobby (IMHO) we all enjoy it, as is why we all continue doing so.

I got news for you buddy...it does clean the coin...there isn't any way around it...

I'm sorry...I hoped that I would have been helping you by telling you not to do that...that was my only reason...to help not to be mean.

Hang in here buddy...I ask questions everyday...just take them one at a time and you will learn more than me!

I wouldn't do it...any way of cleaning...even Acetone...will clean the coin and take down the value...I don't care what anybody says...cleaning is NOT good...
I know there are some times like PVC that a coin must be cleaned...but that doesn't make it good.

    Concurring with Speedy 100%.

Listen to him, and i truly mean it.

I mean as far as i'm concerned you can clean your coins as much as you want, give em a real good polish if it takes your fancy. But when you come to sell them on, if you get 1/10th of the price you paid for them you're doing good.

It's your coin and your money, the decision's yours. If that's blunt, then well it's blunt, but if it's the only way to drive that fundamental lesson home then so be it.

    ACtually, no, i haven't.

Do you even know who clark smith is? He is a reputable coin dealer! Why would he be telling me to put nail remover on my coin?!

I have heard of him....I don't know why he would be telling you to do this...maybe his email is going to the wrong person...and then again...maybe he isn't the guy I thought I heard he was.
