Edit sorry meant 1891 Morgan CC , I came across this coin and became suspicious of it, it looks like its cleaned, but also the toning appears to have that painted look. Cant tell if its pitted or a cleaning to the surface. Also a 1 day auction has some alarm bells raised as well. So what do we think cleaning or counterfeit? https://www.ebay.com/itm/324673911276?hash=item4b9812b9ec:g:iOQAAOSwvVpgxLvr
1 i wouldn't buy it raw and 2 i would think the seller is hiding something with those terrible pictures so fake to me.
Honestly and with respect to all, this fake/phony stuff at every turn is getting ridiculous. Didn't see the reverse but held the obverse against one from my collection (that I know is genuine) and, apart from any cleaning, shoe polish, etc, it looks real/legit to me...and I have a pretty good "details" eye (for my age).
It does appear to have been cleaned but looks real to me also. Without the reverse it's hard to conclude. For this simple reason (no reverse) I'd stay away from it. Interesting post, thank you.
Very interesting coin. For that date position it needs to be the VAM 7 far date, Reverse Spitting Eagle. The 9 appears to be too open to be correct but that could be the picture. The reverse would tell the facts if it is the spitting eagle and the spitting is in the correct position. Currently I have twelve Morgan Dollar sets and the posters coin does not match my spitting Eagle and date font. I always go to VamWorld.com to make diagnostic comparisons. And we can still be wrong. Open 9, closed 9. Suspicious yes. I wouldn't spend my money on it.
