GTG: 1837 Feuchtwanger "Cent"

It's painfully obvious that I know little or nothing about grading Feuchtwanger cents. I can see I should have kept my opinion to myself.

 

No, you always voice your opinion. When you're right it's great, and when you're wrong, you can learn from it. I just didn't know what coin you were referring to.

 

I was referring to the one I knew little or nothing about grading, but I take your point.

 

The only reason I ever respond to these GTG threads is to improve my grading skills, which vary depending on who is describing them (my grading skills.) If I were to describe them, I'd consider myself on the low end of intermediate. But I usually tend to get within a point or two on the pieces I respond to, so I suppose that means I'm not terrible at it.

My only experience with Feuchtwanger Tokens was finding one at the bottom of a tote (a 12 1/2 cent piece, if I remember correctly) that my auctioneer boss was just going to throw into a bin of random stuff. I begged him to let me at least look it up - he did - and it brought pretty decent money when we listed in an auction.

My guess at a grade was pretty much exactly what I wrote in my reply - and I was the first to comment with the correct grade. If I had said something really uneducated/incorrect, I'd have read the other responses and hopefully learned something to improve.

All this to say, don't worry - it's all a learning experience and at least I, for one, didn't judge you for your answer. Keep working at it

 

I was low. Not counting on strike. And looked more abraded luster to me than a 58, but not a series I am that knowledgeable in

 

Feuchtwangers are just plain cool. These are one of those coins that if I'm ever feeling frisky and have the right money at the right time, I might pick one up even though it has nothing to do with anything I collect. They're just cool.

 

That's exactly how I ended up with this one. Neat coin/token to own.
