Don’t you hate that initial feeling only to find out that it was your own thick skull??

If I do anything, I know where I leave my things. Been getting ready for a fishing trip today and my favorite cooler is missing. I know my boy has it…. But I been a little steamed under the collar about it this afternoon. That set the stage….

All my coins are in one safe. My Dansco’s are in another. All except the two & three cent book I been working on and that has been on top of my safe…. The three cent page is filled with the exception of two dates that are really pricey. I been focused on getting the two cent page filled which I did last week. So I turn the page for the first time in months and I have eight EMPTY HOLES on the three cent page…. Man, I flew hot! I just couldn’t imagine someone in my family lifting six coins from me. My heart was seriously shattered.

So I sit here and try to sort out in my mind just exactly how I am going to approach my family with this theft…. I lay my hand on the Dansco page and it feels lumpy…… The danged cardboard had separated and the missing three cent coins had slipped between the page and were hidden in the separation…… Sheesh, I think I am going to spend the rest of the day in my easy chair.

I have some Dansco albums for my statehood quarters, ATB quarters, mercury dimes, and Sac dollars. I like the idea of the albums , but after my statehood quarters started turning darker I was like nope no more Dansco albums for me. I was having problems with my mercury dimes slipping under the cardboard ugh. I am using airtites in "Caps" pages for my Canadian toned quarters and 50 cents collection of which works way better than Dansco albums. Better protected and much easier to put in thee pages.

Reminds me of how I felt one day when an expensive coin "went missing" on me. I forget what the coin was Randy, but it cost me a couple of grand, and I was sure I'd left it on my chair to take a phone call.

When I returned to continue work with it, it wasn't there. I turned the house upside down, checking everywhere . . . even in the trash, and gave up looking after a couple of hours. After that, I decided that obsessing at length over it would cost me more in productivity lost than it was worth, so I returned to my work. When I did, and sat down at my desk, it slid down the curved steel support that connects the back of the chair to the seat.

I was working on a raw capped bust half dime and had it sitting on a mat next to my laptop. Went off to do something, came back and it was gone. Now, where did that coin fairy put my coin? I looked down and saw the kitten sitting there licking his paw and looking all Cheshire Cat-like. The light bulb went off. Found the coin behind the kitchen garbage can where the cat had slung his play toy. Much better than having to look for it in the cat box! Fortunately no damage to this nice AU coin but a new behavior modification required. Not for the cat - me.

Senior moment, yes. I had to dig a hole for a pocket gopher trap. All the excess dirt I put in a container along with my metal detecting hand digger. The container went into a outside storage bin. A week later I'm looking for the digger to go detecting and can't find it. Search everywhere (ha). I figured I left it at a detecting site. Another week goes by and I happen to open the storage bin and there is the digger. Well, now I have a spare.

Well, I can't spend the rest of the day in an easy chair. I have to sit in front of the fan on the front porch and watch my wife mow. I don't want her to get heat stroke. I am joking of course. But I've had to buy several new albums or tape up old one because of the same reason. Open an album and several coins are missing - scary.

I used to similarly joke with my Dad that I would sit in the lawn chair drinking suds while my wife & daughter built the stone steps at my back door last summer.

Those dang coin gremlins again - they hid a 1918-S quarter from me the other day that was in a holder taped to a piece of cardboard (I haven't decided where it's going yet, that's how it came from the seller). I was sure it was with my SLQ albums, but I'd actually dropped it on top of everything in the drawer underneath, I sorted through those albums and my other stuff for an hour before i opened that dang drawer. Stupid gremlins!!!

A friend purchased a used Dansco type album and found a nice 3 cent silver that had slipped between the page.

I once had a deal to sell used coin albums for my local coin dealer. DANSCO did better on ebay so I went through a lot of them for him. One 7070 gave me a real thrill. It was invisible but when I investigated a lump I found a high grade PEACE DOLLAR. I took it back to his shop and asked him what it was worth to him to buy that coin. He named his best price and I handed him the coin and told him where I got it. He was shocked and delighted to get it back.

Glad the story has a happy ending!

My first inclination is to blame someone else when I can't find something. Looks like I'll have a really tough time when alzheimer's kicks in. Have to remember the easychair solution!

I bought Whitman folders for my State quarters and my National Park quarters. Every once in a while, I take them out of storage to look at them, mainly to check if a quarter that I got in change was in better shape than the one in the folder. After I finished looking at them, I take care to make sure that all the coins are in place, then I return them to storage and lay them flat to avoid them slipping down. After a while, though, I found that the Whitman folders were made solid to avoid having them slip down. Although they aren't that old, I don't want them to be lost or damaged. I doubt they are worth much more than face value, but, out of 11 grandchildren, I only have one grandson, and he will probably get my coin collection. At least, that's my decision for now.
