I just opened a box from 2017 ghost zi purchased but never opened. Inside was 50 rolls of 2017 cents. 25 rolls of P and another 25 rolls of D mint marked cents. They were labeled by a company that sealed the tube so they have never been touched.

My question is: What would you do with them?

Spend them,if they were from the bank i would at least search for errors but in this case im doubtful.

I would keep a couple rolls of each mint mark. There’s a few minor Doubled dies for this year, nothing really outstanding. I might search for those or a possible high grade coin. If you don’t want to search them, I’d probably put the rest up for sale. Someone will want them.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 2017 the first and only year that the Philly mintmark will be on the Lincoln cent?

If that is the case, why open any of the Philly's? In the years to come, the rolls may be worth more. However, if you open them to search for a funky, minor doubled die you might just destroy the intrinsic value associated with the "one and only" Philly mintmark on a Lincoln cent. Just my two Lincoln cents!

Thanks Chris. I totally forgot that I had these. I have so many boxes of unopened envelopes, packages and boxes it’s going to take time for me to go through them. I bought but when they arrived I was working to many hours to deal with them. Now I’m starting to open them. Amazing what I’m finding. Lol

I would close the box back up and stick it back in the closet and forget it again, or go to a coin show and ask around and see if you could arrange a swap for a coin you want.

I like the coin show idea. The effort to potential return ratio seems too high for me to want to look at them all.

my opinion, people held the 2017 P like crazy and not gonna be any thing for a really long time.

Just the basic roll from the bank, they sell on ebay for between $3 and $7 each for the Ps, the D's aren't anything special.

so I'd think at the minimum 25 rolls, you could get $75 or better out of it.

if the wrappers are on the rolls from the bank still then the coin tubes are nickel tubes. If it were me I'd probably save the tubes, and cash in the Ds after looking through them, then sell the Ps, starting at like $2.99 and not gouge on the shipping.

Unless you are strapped for cash, I would hold onto them as they are, especially the "P" cents. My dos centavos.

Low price point and speculation. Storage is not a problem. After 4 years I just unpacked them for the first time.

I'd find a penny slot machine where there's lots of ice cold air conditioning & liquid refreshments.

Like 1865King asked, you are asking us what to do, but you bought them for a reason. Yes, I get the low price point etc., but what did you plan to do with them in the first place? I'd hold them until zinc prices skyrocketed. LOL
