They don't have a problem with the Christian denominations, or the Jewish or even the Muslim. The problem comes in the twelfth point of the Scout law, Reverent. This was how it read when I was in the scouts.

Reverent. He is reverent toward God. He is faithful in his religious duties and respects the convictions of others in matters of custom and religion.

And this is the current wording.

Reverent. A Scout is reverent toward God. He is faithful in his religious duties. He respects the beliefs of others.

Except they don't respect them if you are an agnostic or an atheist. No you don't have to announce them when you join up but if you are found to be an agnostic or atheist you will be thrown out.

As for the female on the coin I have two possibilities. Typically the cub scouts and Webalos the scouts are grouped into small groups called dens and they are lead by women called Denmothers. Second possibility is they are intended to represent the Explorer scouts which does accept both boys and girls.

Venture crews can also have women members, but as I mentioned in the other thread, it isn't a terribly popular program amongst women in this country.

I believe she is probably a denmother or other such leader, as the Cub Scout and Boy Scout are both giving their respective two- and three-finger salutes, while the woman is giving a full-hand salute. I am pretty sure that the Explorer Scouts also use the three-finger salute, if that is any indicator.

I hear ya...why they felt the need to put anything other than a white boy on that coin is beyond me. ;) What IS this world comin' to.

. . . I just go back to my point about demonizing a person or a group just because he or it doesn't happen to fully agree 100% with you. That strikes me as a bad practice. I give money to the Salvation Army this time of year, and I'm sure some portion goes to something I don't like. . . the same with my taxes. You don't need 100% comity to like someone.

    Oh My

    To Coin a Phrase~Scouting is a journey.

We even had Sea Scouts in my neighborhood. Either you were on board or you are NOT on board.

As for some we could Jump~board to get to get to THEM.

    Now to the Comm. Coin.

I still don't get it. Too complex to try to get everything right all at once.

And why do we not have a King on our Coinage?

I will be buying a couple because of the great good the BSA organization does and has done for a long time. This demonizing of the BSA by some just because it does not agree to lower themselves to their standards is petty at best.

    salute

As I remember (being a member of the original speciality Exploring Post 102), we were supposed to use a three finger salute. However, 102 was a Science Explorer post and we never had uniforms or saluted , just cranked out a whole bunch of kids all of whom became college graduates and at least 1/3 of them got Ph.D.s:hatch:. If I can make a point, scouting (Boy or Girl) can be a pretty good incubator and yes, Boy Scouts still can earn a coin collecting merit badge (keeping it relevant to this forum).

Bob (made it to Star and father to two Eagles who will each get the BSA commem coin for next Christmas).
