Time to tell

Like most everyone else, I've gotten plenty of the quarters and cents, though I have not seen any 2009 dimes.

I did, however, come across a solitary 2009 nickel in Galesburg, IL.

this is very interesting to see how many ct members and from what states have not found any circulating 2009 nickels and dimes. I hope we hear from more states and members.

I've found but didn't bother to keep a few 09 dimes and one nickel in change. Both dimes came from a Walmart in Cedar City, UT and the nickel from a vending machine in Barstow, CA. Both were found in July...haven't seen any since. Guess I should have kept them.

only for the mean time. No matter how scarce now, there are millions upon millions of these and it's just a matter of time until they surface. These coins are not rare! Mintages in the tens of millions are far too large to create any long term value in these coins. The 1950-D nickel is a good example in that they had a small mintage (that's a fraction of the 2009s) and because the public knew this fact, they were hoarded in MS. Now they are so readily available that the coin sells for less money than it did in the late 1950s. A real loser of an investment.

It appears that the bulk of what has surfaced has been Philadelphia mint coins and my advice is that if you find Denver minted coins head straight to eBay with them because there is cash to be made with all of the hype over these coins as we have already seen when the first P mint coins surfaced.

 

Read somewhere (?) that the mint stopped production of 2009 nickels and dimes in March. Lowest production figures since 1952(?). Could be wrong about all this. (Wouldn't be the first time)

 

I believe you are correct. Nickels from both the Denver and PA MINT combined production is roughly 80 million.

The dime production was roughly 46 million ( Denver ), and the PA production about 96 million.

* I believe this includes those sold in mint sets.

Accounting for the a total of 86% reduction over the previous year (2008) for the combined issues.

Anyone care to do some math calculations? U.S. population divided by the total production's of 2009 Nickels & Dimes =

 

In central NY, I haven't found any nickels, dimes, or quarters from 2009 in circulation. From the sounds of these threads, it sounds like it is country-wide. Should we contact MysteryQuest with this conundrum? They should be able to ferret it out for us.

It does not include Mint set coins as they are an entirely different animal. They are different from the circulation strike coins and have a different finish. And in the case this year of the Lincoln Cent, they even have a different composition

 

Well those published totals could include the mint sets, as they did not specify any distinction between business strike mintage's and silver sets or proof sets. But thanks for the info .

 

DC-p, guam-p, puerto rico-d, lp1 p and d, lp2 p and d, lp3 d, no dimes or nickels,

 

None found by me yet in Western NY!

 

in Phoenix and Flagstaff I've found:

1 DC quarter, 1 Virgin Islands quarter, about 5 log cabins, and 1 of the third-type of lincolns.

No dimes or nickels.

I only commented on the nickel and dime before, but here is my status for the other circulating coins:

Cents: 1 log cabin, two log splitter, all Philadelphia mint
Quarters: Multiple DC, I think 5. Puerto Rico I got three. Guam is more then 10. American Samoa I think it was also three. US Virgin Islands I just got my first two today.

All quarters were Philadelphia mint. I should note we go through more quarters then any other denomination because we don't have a washer or dryer at home and have to go to a laundymat. Which I might have spelled wrong.

No dollar coins in circulation although I did get all the presidential dollars from my mom's best friend, who works at a bank.

 

Which part of Ky? I have seen 0 nickels and dimes.
