That first coins portrait is so modern looking I can’t help but think it was an inspiration for British queens.

 

The aureus portraits are beautiful! I wonder if the Roman engravers created coin molds specifically for aureus, or they use the same molds as in denarius.

 

I agree on the inspiration, especially when looking at the young Queen Victoria portrait. Here is my Victoria sovereign example. Looks nice, but not as good as the high-relief Roman aureus, IMHO.

 

Very nice! I would love to get a Faustina the Younger denarius some day after I finish the Twelve Emperors.

I have a Trajan & Antoninus Pius on the way from Heritage Auctions ^_^.

 

Completing all the 12 Caesars is quite a difficult task for some of them ... I think a nice Faustina II will arrive earlier in your collection

Lol well my goal is to collect as many different Emperors as I can.

So I'd rather have 1x Faustina + an Emperor rather than multiple Faustinas.

But maybe for my Emperor I'll get her son Commodus. He may not have been a very good Emperor but he certainly was an interesting one.

Afterall how many other Emperors fought in the Colliseum as gladiators?
(even if he did cheat by giving his opponents dulled blades)

 

In addition to Faustina Junior's son, don't forget her husband and father.
