Hi Everyone I have an old hammered (i believe) UK coin which I need some help with the ID. Specs: Weight is around 1.22 grams diameter fluctuates due to the nature of the coin but between 20-18mm I have included picks and have scoped it but cant make out enough of the lettering to get a positive ID even with the obviously other markings so any help is appreciated. Kind regards Russ
Use a gray background, not white, for darker-colored coins, and use full-image, cropped pics. Your camera/scope is overriding your light source…imo…Spark
Agreed with Above - the images are just too poor to make out anything (it doesn’t look English though…)
Try putting tracing paper over the coin and gently rubbing the surface with graphite and see if more detail shows. I've done this a time or two and was amazed at how much detail came out. Good luck.
Ironically this is nature light with no camera light source and the pictures were cropped and brightened before posting. I will try again however there isnt much detail left on the coin and was hoping someone could tell based on the relief as opposed to the lettering. I will give it another try with pics later. Thanks for the feedback.
One of these, I think. The "F" and "I" monograms are distinctive. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/Historia/coins/m1/m291.htm
thanks for that dltsrq - It does look similar to that. I have taken some more pics which are the best I can get with my devices.
