will be comming out next year & I can't wait to get mine. I was just checking out the new design & noticed a young lady on the new Boy Scout coin. Now I know that the times are a changin & this Country is really hung up on the political correctness stuff but a female on the Boy Scouts coin, aaaaaaaaaaaaaa what's up with that dose anyone else find this a bit odddd: & dose this mean that the Girl Scout coin will have a young man on it , just wondering . I know that when I was a Boy Scout many moons ago I never saw any young ladies at our meetings & I'am not complaining mind you just a little confused, I mean at that early age girls were still a little creepy & how that would change in a few years mind you . Well anyway I've been so busy the last 2 months I've not had much free time to post so Merry Christmas to all you great folks, & please don't tell my lady I posted this
I think she is a scout mother. I think the young one is a boy. Moms can be scout mothers, you know. I don't think they are trying to say the older woman is a boyscout.
What??? This is possibly one of the ugliest coins I've ever seen! Two straight years they screw up the commemorative coins!!! At least they had it right in 2008.... Those coins were beautiful.
Hated it. Didn't like the Braille either, and I cannot believe this is going to be our commemorative for 2010! I am anxious to see what comes out in 2011, maybe something good.. (But I ain't getting my hopes up!)
she definitely doesn't look old enough to be a scout mother. I think I read that she is part of the scout venturers program which is a relatively new program of the boy scouts that does permit female members. but yeah, to have a girl on the BOY scouts coin is very lame. I can understand our politically correct world needing to show scouts of varying colors on the coin, but we don't need a girl on the coin. That's just too much. I'm sure there won't be a boy if they ever have girl scouts commemorative.
Per the mint's official release, this is exactly what she is. Of course, this program has existed for close to 20 years and I would be incredibly surprised to see their membership make up even 0.5% of the total enrollment of scouts...
WOW. What the hell happened to that coin? Wasn't there a beautiful design with only the scout emblem on it?
If they include Cub Scouts, its only fair to include Venture: http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/Venturing.aspx
This coin represents 100 years of the Boy Scouts of America. The Venturers are part of the organization. To have one section of the organization not represented would not fully represent the Boy Scouts of America. Like it or not this medal is representative of the Boy Scouts. At the next troop commitee meeting I plan to propose that the troop purchase one of these for each scout that achieves the rank of Eagle in 2010. Richard
It's an okay design. I think they had a nicer one shown before. But it's okay. My main hangup is that I just don't like the stripped-down scout logo: the heavily stylized deco eagle. The original scout logo with a real eagle is much more handsome. . . albeit less corporate looking.
I kinda like the 2 scouts giving each other a helping hand , isn't that what scouting has always been about ? I think the designer missed the whole point of this coin , they missed the past & focused completely on the now .
Commemorative coins to Eagle scout..... I love that idea! I'm glad to hear you will attempt to implement it. I also agree that the scout helping the other one climb up is what scouting is all about...helping those that need it. I agree, the mint went with political correctness instead of the spirit of boy scouting.
