2 Dots between D G 1975 Canada cent

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by Dave from the country, Jun 8, 2021.

  1. Hi There,
This caught my eye as it seems there are two dots between the letters D G on the obverse of the 1975 Canadian penny instead of just the 1. I have included a picture of a correct strike on another coin. Any comments or suggestions as to what this might be. The rest of the coin on both sides is fine. Many thanks. Gotta be die crack or die chips. A long shot would maybe be a dropped dot…

I'll give it a try...It appears that the dot took a hit that displaced some of the metal

Yes. The mark that looks like a die break is "into" the surface and if you look closely the raised dot is damaged on one side. The "dig" continued up past the dot. Yhe color inside the dig is bright and does not match the color of the field.

…well…I thought the metal was raised from the pic. I just now took a lot longer and closer look at it…the blob above was round enough to make me think of a die chip…but the damage is clear…and I now concur with Fred…Spark

It also looked raised to me  at first.
