Hi. Not my milieu and I respect the opinions of the people in this forum as being very knowledgeable. Looking for any information and valuation on these. Why are the first 2 listed with the same red ink number? And the signatures seem to be EXACTLY the same on those. Anyway thanks for looking.
@Michael K The first 2 notes are exactly the same. I think you duplicated the photos. Even the stains and cut lines are an exact match.
You posted the same picture twice. Without seeing the image of the other note, I will speculate that the position letter is different. You pictured position A twice. These notes have the same number on the same sheet. They are differentiated by the position letter.
After taking a second look the last photo shows 3 notes as the stains on the back are in different locations. The bills look original but I would need more information about them. If so, they were printed in Richmond, VA. They are dated September 2, 1861. The top note is fully framed but close in areas. The ink from the signatures has bled into the bill and it appears there may be some small pin holes. Only you can tell for sure but the back sides has every indication of such. The serial number is hand written in red inked, which is normal. The bottom bill appears the same except it is trimmed on the line in the upper left.
The catalog number is T-18. They appear to be in fairly decent shape with no folds or tears. This is a very common note so not a lot of value to them as far as CSA Notes are concerned.
Thanks. I appreciate the time and information. These photos were given to me, I will check and see if the correct 2nd one is available. OK here is the missing one. I figured they were low value. Does it help any that there are 3 in a row? Thanks again for helping me out.
You’re welcome. It should help a little in boosting value but like I said, the overall condition isn’t bad but it’s a common note. Not one that I have but probably will one day. Last month I purchased 2 bills one is a featured article on CT as it has signatures and a lot of history. I just bought another bill, with good history, and I’ll pay and take possession on Thursday. I just love these CSA Notes.
I love the history of them too. I'd PREFER but must admit I even have "half notes" in my Hoard. They are way over 150 years old, I MUST respect that history of the notes even if I disagree what the reason was about.
Exceptional looking for their age. Definitely keepers for sure. Thanks for posting them Michael, good luck.
I see that your bio says Graduated 2017 from the Ed Wood School of Grading. Would you please elaborate on this school as I have never heard of it and would like to have more information. Thanks.
I've got a $5 Confederate note from Shreveport Louisiana. It's not worth anything to speak of, I'm sure. I only got it because it was from Louisiana, as am I. I've got one for 50 cents from Virginia. I just like history and old stuff, lol.
I'm a long way away from home right now. I've got pictures of the front and back of the $5 note, but not the 50 cent one. They aren't that great, but I'll post what I've got. Will try to take better ones when I get back home.
Ed Wood is a member here. He would post that he was a professional grader and guess grades on certain coins, usually after the grade had been posted. In real life Ed Wood was the director of ultra low budget poor sci fi movies and other things. He had a difficult life. There is a good film about him starring Johnny Depp and Martin Landau. But outside reading is required to understand more about him than is shown in the film.
That’s an Obsolete Louisiana Bank Note. It was issued in Shreveport Louisiana on March 10, 1863. The serial number is handwritten in the plate position is H. It is tightly trimmed in a few areas and has some staining. Not sure about pin holes but I’m not seeing any signs of any. Looks like minor folds but that’s difficult to tell. A nice looking obsolete bank note for sure. The design is as stated, the south striking down the north. Does you fractional note look like this one?
Your very welcome, I just bought a book on Civil war notes, going to try and dabble when I have the time.
