Now that I'm a whole 8% done with my collection, I decided to let you guys see what I have as of now. I have only been collecting for this series for about 3weeks now, its been slow but very rewarding as of now. The Type set collection will allow me to learn a little about most coins post1800 that I would never otherwise learn. Please criticize, praise, bash, anything. Josh
Not bad for a whole 8%. Very nice indeed. From the pictures I like the 1950D nickel the best. Very nice start.
Hey thats a great start! I think if you keep to the quality you have so far you'll have a super nice type set any collector would be proud of. Keep us posted as you add more. Guy~
I think you are off to a great start. It looks like you are going slow and trying to find nice high grade examples. Keep it up!!!
off to a good start! And to think, with my Holed Type Set I thought I was going slow. It's been less than a year and in a week or so I'll be 46.5% done - including gold (like you, out of 86) then again, coins typically cost 10-30% of their normal non-holed cost
That quarter is BEAUTIFUL!! High grade toned classic coins side by side in a Dansco 7070 is one of the most beautiful things I've witnessed as a numismatist, and also one of the most addicting. You will have a blast putting that set together, especially if you continue adding coins of that caliber
Thanks for the complements. Rest assured that the earlier dates will come a lot slower. Starting modern, and working my way back. If anyone else has a Dansco7070 collection, I found this Spreadsheet a while back that helps keep track of my collection: Here
You're gonna need a powerful lot of money a little later on. I just ordered an album, but have been acquiring coins for it for a couple years. I have some BUs in the later ones, but most of the early ones I am shooting for VF and better. That's going to be plenty spendy for me. Nightowl
In my endless need to improve camera skills, I captured new photos for some. I also replaced the 1950-D Nickel with my 1940-D. While its not a key date for Jeffersons, I think this coin is a much better representation. I took a new photo of the 1913 Nickel, which shows more of the luster that is actually on the coin whereas the original photo was kind of flat. The 1945-D Nickel will need new photos as well, this photo was taken some while back and doesn't show the luster that is present on the coin. The 1937 Nickel is far too bright and can be taken again with less lighting. I could use Photoshop to edit it, but I don't like "juicing" photos per say. Tell me what you think.
And here we are again. I still need to work on capturing the dime and quarter. On the Quarter the blue isn't that dark in hand, but its hard trying to keep the glare off. Will work on that tomorrow.
Thanks for the spreadsheet!! Good luck on you venture ; ) I completed my Dansco #7070 3 years ago. I started it in 1997-98.The Gold coins were the last to go in,and the St.Gauden $20 piece BU went for $659 then(2006). The coins in my set are from EF-40 to Gem BU with 1 or 2 proofs. I came up with my own format in documenting the set, which said formats contains the same infor as the provided spreadsheet.I scanned each page so while it sits in my safety deposit box I can view the set from my computer. I'm working on completing the Lincoln set (housed in a Dansco album) missing the key dates 1909svdb and '22 plain and Indian Head set.
