I work at a sheetz gas station and I look at just about every coin that goes through the registers. Well today I got lucky. Here is what I found 1911 wheatie 1955 wheatie (the last 5 in the date looks to be doubled. is it me or is this an error?) 1929 wheatie and a 1950-D jefferson nickle! (my first). By the way I love hearing about what people find throughout the day. So post what you have found today if anything. thanks!
Good finds! I think that there's a lot out there for the taking, but non-numismatists don't look or don't care. That's fine, leaves more for us!
Hello -- Real good find. i love searching for olde wheaties!!!! They are cheap to find, and can still usually find them in decent quantities. All i found today was a beat up 1969-D wheatie =(
exactly! My best find was a 1934 series a 10 dollar bill. When the guy gave it to me I was just in awe. That and finding a 1935 peace dollar in my register. There are still tons of finds out there for us to find.
1969-d wheatie?? Never heard of that one before. And yes you can still find lots of wheaties in change. I love finding pre 1960 nickels. I find them a lot.
The 1955 double die is one of the most famous and usually sells for $700+ depending on quality. But that is for the full date strong doubling (believe me, you'd know it if you had it). Yours maybe what's sometimes referred to as a "poor mans" double die. I'm not sure what kind of premium these carry, but as the name suggests, not much. Would love to see a pict of the 1955 if you can. Cool finds
Sounds like your 1955/5 is a double from die polishing or some other machine doubling. I don’t think they have much value Maybe 0.50c-$1 over the coin but only because of the 1955 D/die’s popularity. Still a sweet find.
This is the best I can do for right now. I have a 2 megapixel camera and it doesnt take close ups too well. Ill try again if this doesnt help. I know this isnt a 1955 double die (although I wish it was) but the 5 does look doubled. Ive seen pictures of the "poor mans" double die and thats what I think I may have.
I have a 5 megapixel camera, and cant take pics as well as you did with your 2 megapixel... its not the camera as much as the operator with these types of pics.... IMO i think your picture turned out great - kudos.... as for the cent, i think it looks more damaged then any doubling....
hey thanks! I have a magnifying glass which I held on the lense of my camera and took about 3 pictures before I got a good one. And thanks for the info! I'll throw this one in my "wheatie" mason jar instead of a 2X2 holder. -Jeff
Last week my dad came back home from the airport and told me to close my eyes and hold out my hands. When I opened them I saw a 1946 quarter in my hand. Not in the best of condition, but still silver. He found it in the soda machine there. Can't thank him enough- Bill (GO CARDINALS)
My local bank has some fun things for me! 1963 C $50 bill and a 1950 D $100 bill... It's still very cool to find older funny!!!!!!! SM
had an even better day today at sheetz. 1940-d wheatie 1944 wheatie 1946 wheatie 1956 wheatie 1966 half dollar 1968-d half dollar and a bunch of state quarters (yes I keep just about all of them i come across) sometimes i hate that place but other times Its very rewarding.
Oh trust me I do. I have several star notes, 2 $1 silver certificates (1957), 1 red $5 red seal 1963, a 1934a $10, and some older $1 from 1963.
