I noticed there are coming more and more Lysimachos coins with these dies and I decided to make a post about it for people here to be aware of them. It started with this Pecunem example (which is a fake, confirmed by Mr. Murphy as well): https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?lot=77&p=lot&sid=589 Later on I started to notice some examples with these fske dies on Ebay, but well, that place is full of fakes so it was not that 'concerning'. However, some time ago I started to see mules of these coins with the same reverse die; which were fantasy coins but were still listed at two auction houses: Very recently in an auction I saw two fakes of the same obverse and reverse dies again: Note that the weight of these coins are sometimes not necessarily "suspicious", the only way to detect the fake is by the fake die matches (in the case of the Pecunem example the wrong weight was pretty obvious though). Mr. Murphy said: "The letters are not cut properly in the die and the coin isn’t struck. There are no flow lines or metal movement." When you go shopping for a Lysimachos drachm, please be aware of these fake dies, they keep to be sold even at auction houses
Thank you for the heads-up, @Pavlos. I've been collecting Roman coins for many years, but now I'm starting to move into Greeks, so I am particularly vulnerable to being fooled by a fake. I will be extra careful when considering drachms of Lysimachos.
