Interesting, I don't think these were issued in sets and your information supports that idea. In order to post pictures, you go to the middle tab to the right and just below that says "Upload a File". If you hit that one, it will bring up "Choose Files to Upload" on Apple products at least and then from there you can pick your photo.
here is the photo of my coin that I posted on a Facebook page: https://m.facebook.com/story/graphq...wMTI0NDI0MTg4MDpWSzoxMDE1ODMyOTU1Mjg2OTY5OQ==
Yes, that looks to be the same type and def. copper nickel. We are not sure the mintage, but maybe 20-30 pcs. released. Value? Hard to peg but likely, and depending on the venue, a couple of hundred dollars.
Not sure if you meant in general or for Barbados specifically here, but there are 1984-FM Liberia 1, 5, and 10 cents with matte finish that were included in Coins of the World sets and probably released to circulation as well, from what I've been able to gather.
therefore summarizing this coin according to the mint it had to exist only in silver and for this reason it is cataloged only in silver. however some copper-nickel specimens have been made to facilitate photography, right? but is there a way to contact the mint?
Hiya, The copper nickel specimens NOT for photography - as you can see they do not photo well at all (BTW yours looks pretty good but can not make out hairlines, etc. very well). Sadly, the mint ran into progressively increased problems and sold/changed hands numerous times past the 1980 year mark. Many of the records were not available then or were confused or just plain wrong, the listings for matte for Barbados, Belize, Guyana, Jamaica, Papua, Trinidad (amongst others ) 1978 and later appear to be in error. Krause got hold of many of the records, but unclear precisely their source. Their 2020 Standard Catalog for example had these problems with the 1984 Barbados $10: 1 - KM 40 They have this listed but then call it "Silver", when by their cataloguing system, it should NOT be silver and no proofs of this copper nickel type known 2 - The uncirculated version listed under KM 40 is NOT (M). It should be (U), which is the coin you have. These were NOT used for photographic. 3 - There is no KM 40a, which is what the proper number should be for the silver proof according to how they listed ALL other $10 coins and for that matter all other silver versions. 4 - The listings under proof sets for Barbados, KM PS13 incorrectly propagate/list under identification this set including the KM 40 (which would be copper nickel) and it should for the reasons above be listed as a KM 40a Also the fate of many of these coins is unclear, just what happened to the currency or uncirculated versions in either (M) matte or (U) uncirculated is very unclear. I have some connections to people of some influence in a couple of these countries, and have contacted the Central Banks with NO results, very frustrating. I will look into the Liberia coins as I do not know these, and do not know of any small denomination unc. Liberia coins for after 1979 above 10c denomination for the FM.
Addendum: These Liberia coins appear to be an anomaly in that it seems that the 1c, 5c and 10c coins were struck in the 1983 and 1984 years and that 500K were struck! I am not aware of any other such commercial level orders being filled by the FM during this time period. I ordered for curiosity sake one of the "Coins of All Nations" and will see for myself. I looked at my 1978 and 1979 FM Liberia Proof Sets and note that the FM "mintmark" are VERY hard to see, even with magnification. Will report what this set looks like on receipt.
Sorry I left this thread to flounder in history! Well, the Liberia coins I would classify as more "satin" in appearance similar to matte but IMHO just not quite there, and they have the FM mintmark/monogram. I have not found any 1983 coins, the 1984 I have seen are in the "Franklin Mint Coins of All Nations" series from that time frame and include FM specimens with the 1984 date of 1c, 5c and 10c denominations. They are probably somewhat scarce but have not found out how many sets were released from this series. I can dig my set out if anyone interested. I believe that there has been posting of this on other topics if you run a search, complete with pictures. Meanwhile, NO other information on Barbados issues of the FM for 1984. I still am of the belief that no matte 1984 coins were struck, and the uncirculated coins of this year from FM are of the (U) prooflike format. To confuse issues, some of the 1984 coins without the FM mintmark and slight differences were struck by the Royal Mint do don't forget this. I have not been able to find 1984 FM examples of the 1c, 5c, 10c or $2 denominations. IMHO, the 10 dollar (U) dolphins coin was not released in set form and instead bagged up and sent out, probably to Barbados itself & therefor examples shown here are most likely from that source (bag). No way of guessing mintage but they are likely quite scarce - unless someone is holding remainders of the theoretical bag (ie bank employees of the Central Bank or others???).
