I bought a framed Norman Rockwell print called "The Collector". It is a picture of an gentleman looking at what looks like a coin with his son looking over his shoulder. It is now adorning the wall of my coin room. What do you think?
As a collector of Boy Scouts militaria, I am very fond of Rockwell's work. The albums and holders in the painting look interesting. Anyone know if these holders exist in real life?
When you look at it closely, you can see he is putting the last coin in the album. Wow what a feeling of satisfaction haha. Very beautiful painting! I might have to buy a print for myself I looked it up, the original sold for USD 965,000 on May 21, 2014.
White gloves for handling the coins. A cup of soup on the same table. A pipe nearby. Oh, and a dog nosing at the coins. But, hey, at least he dresses for his coins.
I'm stuck on the dog's interest in the coins . . . man, what I wouldn't give to have a dog so interested in my hobby!
We have a lot of Rockwell stuff. This is great. And the dog and the pipe appear quite often in Rockwell's.
Beautiful. Thanks for sharing. I wonder what those white things are (beneath the elderly gentlemen's left hand). Notepads? Slim boxes? And I think that very thin red volume on the lower shelf to the right, must be an early vintage edition of the Red Book.
That album appears somewhat similar to those made under the Dansco Continental Line of the early 60s, but it doesn't appear similar to any of the albums I've seen before.
