it seems nowadays. i saw a lot of colored silver or other metal coins being colorized. it looks beautiful and more expensive. are they the future collectibles?. i don't have any and i don't intend to buy one. i am not use to see silver coins being colored yet. and i want to get opinion from you guys. did you like it?.
I'm putting together a collection of error bisons, I have over 120 different varieties, and included one colorized bison just for fun. It only cost me $3 including shiping. It is the ONLY colorized coin I have and I don't plan on buying anymore. I realize this collection will never be worth much but it has been fun putting together. All are raw and we are putting them in our own holders. We use plastic pages in a 3 inch note book to display them. Looks great and me and grand kids have had a great time doing it. They have learned how to handle coins and what to look for. I have bought only 3 coins over $10 so my investment is low. My grand daughter Zoey will inherit it, I think she already has. Total cost - less than taking 4 kids to Disneyland, time spent with grand kids priceless.
I sincerely hope not! Unfortunately this abomination is spreading. The Canuks have done it at least once (I got one as "omake" - a little extra gift - from an EBay seller, but I can't recall where I put it ). The Japanese have done it twice, and somehow I just haven't gotten around to picking up those ¥1,000 commems. or even your nearby Six Flags Magic Mountain Boy, you sure got that right!
I think colorized coins are a novelty. I am sorry if I offend anyone but you could colorize a planchet and have the same result. The reason that the Tennesse quarter is so valuable is because of all the Elvis colorization that is eating up the population of the quarter. I have seen the range of colorized, gold, platinum, holographic, and the like and I believe that in the end, there will be a lot of these collections in garage sales.
Canada has done it a few times the Poppy quarter was the only one put into circulation. Most of the other times they were sold as collectibles. Mainly they coloured the non-circulating Canada Day quarters and I believe they also made a coloured Santa Clause quarter. If you also count holographic coins then there are alot more coloured coins. "We Canucks do love colours, Must be the beer"
you could paint your own!and do a better job.i got one as a gift and a year later all the paint flaked off.
very true, they do not hold up well in circulation, but the mint had to make several million and then paint them at a cost less then face value.
On a whim,I went to the RCM site and ordered a roll of poppy quarters.Unfortunately, both end coins in the roll are heads up so I've never actually seen one except in pictures.Anyway, ain't no paint gonna be flakin' off my north of the border beauties.
colored coins some dealers selling colored coins are silver towne, & worldwide treasure bureau. if you know other dealers. please post here. thanks.
colored coins it seems that other countries official mint have also producing colored coins for the public. like canada and u.k. so far, i still don't like the idea and i will not buy any of it.
i think a distiction should be made between the coins colorized at the mint, and ones that are colorized by a third party. I have no problem with the mint sanctioned coins, the ones that aredone by third partys are junk to me, damaged. same thing with the gold-plated coins. I purchased a couple of poppy quarters form an ebay seller for cheap ( .35 each if i remember ) and the shipping was very, VERY cheap. i was already buiing some stuff form them and threw in the poppy quarters just for fun. if you are interested in getting them from the seller just PM me and i will give you a link.
colored coins colored coins look bad for coin collectors as of present time. maybe after couples of year. it might be accepted by many collectors. who knows. future coins are technicolor.
colorized coins why the foreign countries keep producing colorized coins?. why the u.s. do not want to?. tell me.
We have, unfortunatly. The US mint doesn't make them, but trust me, plenty of companies in the US make them. Don't want to offend anyone, but I only see these as novelties also, and I don't think they ever will be big in the nusmismatic community (atleast I hope not) and not offense to anyone, they are pretty and all, but they just ruin the coins IMO. I look at these as the same I see the plated coins. All this all my opinion, and please no one take offense. Phoenix
Nearly 1000 on evilbay at this moment in time, some are nicer than others, I openly admit to having a few in my collection LOL but as they are bits I just happend to take a fancy to I dont go out of my way to find them. I have noticed over the years though a number of Enamled coins floating about, all done by hand and woudnt mind one or two of those Most of what is done in the private mints and to some extent by the official mints themselfs IMHO are rubbish. Here are a couple of mine
colorized coins well, let's not mixed with numismatic items. but they are nice and beautiful. maybe i buy some for fun.
You go for it if you like em why not, No one elses opinion realy matters LOL also these items might well bring people int our hobby, youngster starts off with something nice & colorful than moves on to bigger & better things.
