Both coins look authentic with the improved pictures. Lucky for you, the deal seems to have worked out.....congrats.

The 1909-S doesn't appear to have been cleaned. It's a classic looking woody 09-S. There is separation between the cheek and jaw along with a good amount of the wheatlines showing. It is technically at least VF-20, I might go VF-25. The only problem is the obverse scratch, that might prevent it from grading. I would send it to ANACS or NGC for grading and authentication ASAP.

I missed this photo of the reverse of the 09-S:

That is a borderline EF-40. Many of the 09-S's were poorly struck on the obverse portrait, this coin fits in that category. The woodgraining (similar to mine also) hides the details in a picture. I have one that similar and forum posters guessed the grade from EF to AU. The coin came back MS-62 from NGC. Definately send this coin in for grading, if the scratch doesn't kill it, you might be very pleasantly surprized.

It's quite obvious in the second image shown that this shotgun roll has been opened and resealed. Both ends should look like the first image, without wrinkles or deformation. Any other look is an obvious tamper.

I'd say you got lucky this round, and that might be the seller trying to hook you in for more rolls.

There are literally hundreds of people daily being ripped off by the "sealed shotgun roll" penny scam on ebay.

If you get an obviously tampered roll, leave negative feedback. Buyers cannot be given retaliatory feedback by sellers any more, ebay changed that policy to protect buyers. Buyers need to help monitor the site for scams like these and flag bad sellers.
