How did this get a grade? For as long as this column is listed, you can go to the listing and see a long scratch parallel with Liberty's leg . . . did the grader's really miss that?
I guess they let it pass even though it shouldn't of and I can see how it could've been over looked especially during a short time.
Wow, great catch! It blended right in with the design. Being what it is they must not have spent much time on it. That's not a good look for QC... It'll never be cracked out again.
It was lucky to be graded, although I have seen worse Seated coinage that got graded. TPGs are lenient on that series.
This reminds me of the old "Highlights" magazines I would read in the doctor's office as a kid. There was a picture where you had to find all the hidden items. There would be an obvious "comb"...(or pencil, toothbrush, etc), but blended into the picture so it's tough to see. Many of the unreleased pre-1853 dimes and half dimes were melted by the mints for their increased silver content. I buy these when they become available...regardless of condition.
Same, it reminds me of optical illusions where you see it one way and then once you realize your error, the alternate perspective seems clear as day. A great reminder to be watchful for problems hidden in busy designs, and to not let our guards down any less than raw coins when considering certified material. Thanks for sharing @ToughCOINS
