Using Numista, It's pretty easy to fill some album holes by swapping out coins for coins that you need. Just pay postage. Ask for photos. All members are rated.

 

For my foreign coins I've been purchasing in large lots from an Ebay seller. He has lots divided out by countries ranging from as few as three to over 400 coins. I then take out the ones I don't need and then sell them in bulk when I have a large amount of them.

 

We're all different. I have never really collected in "collections" mode...or sets, albums, etc. I did track the state quarters I acquired and as a kid I did the penny, nickel, dime albums a bit (but not much), but my interests and pursuits of learning changed so fast I never stayed with them long enough. I collect coins as an on-again/off-again amateur hobby, period...mostly U.S...a little of this, a bit of that, some of most everything but not all or maybe any of a few things. Whatever tickles my fancy at any given time. Since I have more Morgans than anything else...with a close second going to Walkers, Washingtons and some early-mid 20th century Canadian silver $1 and 50c...I guess Morgans are what my "fancy" has loved more than others since I was a boy.

I literally have NO idea . Too many little side projects. What will stick? I have no idea. Actually at the moment it's baby chicks. No coins lately. Lots of bird related reading though a poultry medal/exonumia is likely.

 

None of them. Well not really. I found a roll of silver quarters. A member saw the coins I found ( I showed). And sent me 2 quarter book with a few of the coins I didn’t picture and wished me luck

 

I think you members are great. @Randy Abercrombie and @Kentucky (my favorite) also are super great. The member that sent me the books She said Sush. Don’t tell. I’m so lucky to have all of you members.

 

Sis. I will put the coins (full roll of silver quarters) in books. Will post picture when I get to it. That’s a lot of quarters. Been doing cents mostly now

Those first two sets on my list are major rabbit holes and proving to be very challenging. Plus I'd like to get all my "Bison" set all slabbed with the buffalo forward. And of course, it wouldn't be complete without the infamous 3-legged nickel. Since the once free-roaming wild buffalo knows no boundaries I'm also including Canadian coins in this set (they are spectacular) and have my first few on the way.

And I have a unique, if not controversial, take on the indigenous type set. The "Native American" set as once defined by J. Locker in a 2006 series of great articles in The Numismatist needs updating IMHO. That is, the IHC, gold dollars and 3$ and even Indian Eagle don't count. As beautiful and classic as they are, the "Indian Princess" designs of the 1850s represents cultural appropriations upon a Liberty in times when Native Americans and their culture were being systematically wiped out. And dear Teddy, a renown Indian hater, wanted the Eagle to be more nationalistic (need to research the history of this design more). Don't mistake, I love the coins and collect them but for my indigenous set they don't make the grade. And what about Hawaii? Are they not indigenous to what is now the United States? The Hawaiian Commemorative 50C will eat up any savings by not including a few gold pieces. Later this summer, once I get through some family visits and find the time I'll start a new thread with my full list and to talk more about this. Anyone else interested? Let me know here. I'd love some feedback and would appreciate the conversation. Including a quick so-so pic with a few samples for emphasis. Onward!

 

After starting from scratch again last year (been an on & off collector since age 7, 1981), I decided to focus on a PCGS CAC 1st Year Type Set. What I've found is, after some easy low hanging fruit, those specific requirements don't come up too often in the grades I'm looking for. So I've recently started expanding my collecting focuses:
