I noticed another user asking if he had to destroy his slab in order to get the coin out. I also have some coins I'd like to get out of their slabs and into 2x2s and folders. So I'd like to ask a couple questions before attempting this.
First, are the coins more valuable if kept in their slab or plastic cases? Like the ones I have from the mint?
Second, what is the best method to opening one of these slabs or sealed cases without damaging the coin?
    Thanks for your help everyone.

The mint doesn't slab coins only third party graders slab coins. The mint packages coins in plactic holders. Personally, I keep them in the holders but its a personal choice. The environment you keep the coins in (for example high humidity) weights more heavily is most circumstances.

The topic of cracking coins has been discussed many times. There is a search function available to search the forum for some of the more frequently asked questions.

    Best of luck.

These are my own opinions. Other people may disagree.

There are advantages to leaving the coins in slabs:

    1. Protection- Much less likely to have problems if you leave them in slabs.
    2. Recognition- Most collectors recognize the top tier 3rd party graders.
    3. Easier to sell- Coins from top tier usually carry a premium.
    4. Multiple graders- You are getting the opinion of 3 to 4 other graders.

There are disadvantages to leaving the coins in slabs:

    1. Displaying- Decreases view and displaying.
    2. Decreases enjoyment- Just not the same as looking at a raw coin.
    3. Not a commodity- Similiar graded coins are not the same. Each coin is unique.

I personally have had too many problems buying copper that I usually won't buy an uncirculated copper coin unless it's slabbed, especially if it's from a long distance source. This is an industry that it is permeated by con men and criminals. I'm less worried about the grade; I'm a good grader; But I more worried about buying something that has been mishandled or poorly treated.
