This year the Summer ANA convention is in Rosemont, Illinois. Right outside of Chicago next to O'Hare airport. At this point in time I am planning on attending. Last show I attended was the ANA winter show in Atlanta, 2020. Any one else planning on attending? If you've never been to an ANA show I highly recommend attending. Lots of fun. I usually troll the bargain section where most of the world/ancient dealers set up. Lots of U.S. coins in that section as well. Always a lot of nice displays and the dealers always bring their best. After you walk a couple of the aisles you'll just wonder why gold is so expensive. Maybe we can get a meet/greet up at the concession area. Get know each other. Hope to meet you guys and gals there.
Sounds like a lot of fun but Illinois is pretty far from CA, haha. Good luck, hope you find some bargains. Be sure to post your pickups!
Just close enough that I wouldn't mind the drive and then head to Chicago and check out some sites and restaurants!
@Matthew Kruse Get a couple of your collecting buddies and take a road trip. Of course since you live in CA you should go to the Long Beach shows. They're a lot of fun as well.
I was planning on going but as luck would have it we will be moving that week. If I go my house keys might not work when I get back.
I wish I could but need to take my daughter to college. Gibson filet sliders across the street are amazing.
Do you have to be a member to attend? Are there maps of layout for this (and other) coin shows? How do you know where ancients or the "bargain" US coins are found? Why is gold so expensive ?
@MIGuy Hope you're having a good day. You do not have to be a member to attend. There is a $10 fee to attend for non members. I'm not sure if that is a one time or daily fee. There are maps of the floor layout at money.org. 90% of the foreign/ancients are in the Select/Economy sections. Most dealers will be packed and gone on Saturday. I would recommend earlier in the week. Why is gold so expensive? I don't know. If you go earlier in the week you will see so much gold that you will wonder why the price is so high.
Shucks, I am to far away to attend. Don't forget to share the results, okay... Be safe, wear a mask, have fun.
@MIGuy I just spoke with the ANA convention staff and admission is$10/day. Be sure to take in the exhibits. Many many nice displays. As I said before go on a week day. 2 or 3 will give you a chance to take it all in. Maybe we can can meet some of the members at the concession area.
@kazuma78. As you say, the Tyrant display will be a joy to see. The exhibits that the collectors share will be just as nice.
Chicago is 6 months behind the rest of the country regarding COVID recovery.make sure you bring your mask.
Pardon my ignorance, but what is the tyrant display? Coins with tyrants on them? Who is doing the display? Are there always displays at coin shows? Sounds neat. I love the American Museum of Natural History and the Smithsonian's, etc. both Detroit and Chicago also have some terrific museums.
@MIGuy "Tyrant" is a collector of coins. He/She has several superb collections. The U.S. $10 gold collection will be on display. They also own the King of Siam proof set along with hundreds of other world coin collections. Well worth attending the ANA in August just to see the $10 gold collection.
