Had to put this one up quickly and have everyone take a look and advise me on what to do. I pulled this 1968 S 5c because of MM and was quickly scanning over coin to see if there was anything else and I came across this strain hair from either a brush or someone working that is embedded on the back of Jefferson's head. My feeling is a brush hair but you never know. I've looked at it from all sides and can't find any type of adhesive. If it is really part of the coin is the error significant and what should a person do next? I assume this has probably happened before and read about website called "encasedcollectorsinternational" but article was from 2015. Thanks again
Thanks paddy...it is more a curiosity than anything else to me. Was thinking of sending out just so when family comes across a graded and verified hair coin they will get a kick out of it. The gift that keeps on giving...lol
In this picture it kind of looks like a strand of material that became caught uncer a tiny Lamination issue. Pocket Lint?
My first name starts with the letter "S".....what is special about the S mint mark on this Jefferson nickel...anything...?
Eww. I wouldn't touch that kinky little hair if I were you. Just a damaged coin that got some type of hair caught on it.
I just went through s mint roll of 1964 P LMC's. I found several with fine hair or lint attached to micro laminations. I have never really looked for that before.
Thanks for the help everyone and I apologize for my delay in responding. Crashed shortly after posting and taking advantage of retirement by sleeping in....lol I thought it was struck with a die chip floating around but will get a better pic if you think it's a lamanation paddy. I can't believe if it was embedded at mint the thing has survived all this time. Considering in 53 years it had to have gone in washer and dryer more than a couple times.
It appears to have been struck directly under then pinched somehow. Maybe ?...IDK...It has me wondering how it lasted all this time?
