Very nice details, but the photo seems to me played with. I wouldn't be surprised if it looks cleaned in hand. I hope I'm wrong though.

Yes, I saw that while surfing ebay. Thought it was cleaned too.

Photo was edited for sure, and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it was polished.
Take photos yourself once you get it in

It not really too heavy of a cleaning. Besides, most Barbers high than Vf have been cleaned at some point in history. I'm more concerned about the grades than a light cleaning. I think he brightened the pics a lot to bring out the details. I'll take some pics and update the thread when I get it in hand.

Ok, I have to ask. What's the tip-off that it's probably been cleaned? The shadows around each of the design features (ex, it's darker in between the numbers of the date)?

It has an almost bleached look. There is no dirt or grease in the recesses of the hair or wreath. Sorry, it's just too artificial. Try for a refund.

I guess I'm not seeing what you're seeing. It looks to me like he just used the flash to eccentuate the details. Compared to the typical cleaned coin which can look like a proof, I don't really see a cleaning to the degree in which you guys do. If you look at the sellers other items, all of his pics are extremely bright. I'll update this thread with some pics when I get it

After looking at his other posts the pictures he takes are all washed out which is some of it. But it still looks cleaned, which most are that are 100 years old or more. It's not harshly done or anything. Still a nice coin.

It appears overly bright from a cleaning, and there seems to be a large scratch on the neck. I have about given up on raw circ. Barber halves on eBay, most of them are problem coins.

This seller has also been reported a number of times for peddling fakes.

It most likely has been cleaned using an eraser. If you look at the areas around the stars it is most evident with the shadowing present. The coin looks way too bright at the portrait and there is even a bit of a shadow around the head of liberty. A lot of coins were cleaned using an eraser. I believe that is what happened here, probably prior to this seller ever getting the coin.

I too have been collecting Fine to XF Barbers via EBay. I stay away from ones that look obviously cleaned or toned. How much less is a coin worth if it is cleaned?

Looks like VF30 to XF40... Wholesale value is $92-130 for this coin. But you probably need to subtract a little since it's a bit nicked up and possibly cleaned? Also, I tend to buy these ~20% below wholesale value. But it looks like you got a very fair price at $62.

Nice Barber , you don't find many in that good of condition . Ussually they're completely worn or MS . I like it even if it once had a bath .
