Hey guys, can't decide what this is. Sort of looks like a small die chip at 9:00 on the reverse of this 1958-D, but it's on the edge. Thoughts?

    Thanks for any opinions!

    It's a die crack. Not a cud.

It looks more like a folded over rim burr to me. One that has begun to lift / peel away from the surface with age. Kind of got that lamination look to it.

Hmm, any way to confirm that without peeling it back? :) I wonder if something thin enough could try to slide under it...

The interesting thing about it is that it appears to take a hard left and run up the side of the wheat stalk.

Looks more like a lamination than a crack. What about this thing, what's this?

Yup, looks like damage. When I hold light up from the left, the right side of it lights up, so it's incuse.

Too dark and fuzzy for me to make out.

I fiddled with the contrast, maybe making it less washed out. In the process I noticed apparently I have some die deterioration doubling occurring on the C to the right. ha.

Thanks for the picture. It’s a die break.

When the dies deteriorate they get a little bouncy. It could be that, a slip or twist in the strike...
