This coin was purchased two days ago on the bid board at my local coin shop for my type set. I am pretty sure that if I were to send it to PCGS today, it would come back as AT due to the rigid standards, and it may very well be AT. I took that into consideration making the purchase. However, I have seen lots of wild colored Lincolns in slabs, so.... The coin DOES retain full blazing luster, so that part of the coin was not altered during the process....so I am curious as to what your opinions are. Pennylady: As a Connusor of toned copper, what is your opinion on the wild color? The first picture is taken under a direct light source to highlight the luster(I am not good at taking photos that emphasize both color and luster). I am certain that the luster is 100% natural and full. The other shots were taken under natural light and better bring out the color. Anyways, I don't think the coin would grade above 61 due to the reverse hits. It looks great in my type set! Feel free to opinionate away! Direct Light shots:
Looks like the only that might make it a Genuine is the spot over the ERTY in Liberty...that makes me think something environmental. Maybe dipped a long time ago and naturally retoned over time.
i dont think a dipped coin could tone that much unless it was AT. none the less some nice colors there.
thanks for the thoughts. Maybe it came in contact with some chemicals along the way that didn't inhibit the luster? The reverse is a bit wild, but the look is growing on me. It cost 10 bucks, so no huge loss if it's AT.
I do not know if it is NT or AT, but I will bet it will not grade. Even if the TPG would accept the toning, which I doubt today, I think the coin would be called corroded and/or PVC damage. Beside the LIBERTY, look at the O in ONE.
