    Hi everyone,

As a brand new collector, I decided to start off with trying to accumulate some Lincoln wheat cents.. So I was pleased to come across this within my first month or so in the hobby! I particularly like the patterns in the coin, can anyone tell me what causes this?

This is my first post on the forum, so if its in the wrong place admins, please feel free to remove it.

    Many thanks IMG_20210527_141646_edit_946691212443566.jpg IMG_20210527_141702_edit_946673891858673.jpg ,

It looks like fingerprints to me, too! The condition looks to be pretty nice.

Definitely fingerprints. The oils on your hands get transferred when you handle them and then, over time, it appears on the coin. Once there, it is etched in forever.

Sorry, those are my fingerprints from when the coin was just minted...

Welcome to CT @M4000000. Nice full image photos, thanks for that. Unfortunately, the "pattern" on the cent is fingerprints and diminishes the value to many collectors, but like you, I kind of like the looks of it and would certainly put it in my album.
    Good luck in the future.

Imagine what that coin has been through. Still looking good after all these years, it's definitely a keeper. Welcome to CT world, thanks for posting your VDB.

    Thanks for all the replies!

Yes amazing to think of all the stories they could tell, who's pockets and cash registers they've lived in and even whose fingerprints they might be!

Thanks for the warm welcome to the forum.

  17. That is a very nice VDB. I was cleaning up my desk today and found a NGC seabed 1909s VDB AU55 mint error. Don't even remember when i got it. I guess that having a stork does not help remembering some things.
