Found these through some of dad’s and one from store. No questions, just wanted to post for Lincoln cent penny peeps.
just a simple question. (I keep the S mint coins too) does the WEST coast folks have such a "thing" for "S" coins as we on the eastern part of the U.S. (I live in the Town where Elvis was born, it's no big deal to me but visitors go crazy)
I always get a little excited when I find wheat backs. Too bad about the fingerprint on the first one. Thanks for the post.
I live in the Northwest and I too keep pre 1982 S Lincolns. I also keep all wheats. I enjoy collecting them and it keeps me busy. Thanks for the post, good luck
In the 1950's & 60's.. Living in TX, Denver mint cents were prevalent while San Fran mint cents a rara avis. & I alway wondered if West Coast collectors had difficulty finding Philly mint coins in circulation! J.T.
You are a Tupelo man then. We use to travel there all of the time to Fulton. I’m a southern gal so S is a good letter. Lol. I do like the wheat cents and S of course. Don’t find as often I guess. But these were in my dad’s except for one.
Yes I noticed the finger print but I would not dare mention finger print again. Got beat up for that one lol!
I've been collecting for a while. I remember when a neighbor first told me she had a brand new 1968 cent with a D. I told her it couldn't be, because they stopped putting mintmarks on coins in 1964. Four HUGE years before. Such a pronouncement from a 10 year old coin expert fell on deaf ears. Then she showed it to me and I couldn't believe my eyes. We were squarely in the center of the Denver Mint distribution area. Even Philadelphia mint coins were scarce while San Francisco mints were like finding gold. I'm old enough that silver, Indian cents and Buffalo Nickels weren't completely gone from circulation yet. They were scarce, but you could find them searching rolls. And search I did. But I never made it to the motherload rumored to be in Vinton just 10 miles away. It didn't receive new mint distributions so the coins circulated longer. My DAD had our bank keep 7 Silver Dollars for me for my seventh birthday in 1965. I think that's what introduced me to the hobby, but you can imagine the memories are a bit uncertain. But that's when I started to get lunch money and had access to the coins. That's also when Banks would give away metal "piggy banks" of a sort to the children. I had a car bank that looked like a model T.
Yep, funny how that works nut I collect all s coins & p coins of certain decades & not know why but I do. Coins get real confusing when you think you have some special one but not & coins have up's & downs which the latter seems the norm so how many of you get that down feeling after the up excited feeling finding a cool different kind of find? I get to the point of rolling up my coins but then find new info then unroll & wow what a deal hun? Think how much time & effort you put into this madddddnesss right? Thank's Steven
Yes understandable. A waste to some but special to some. My dad’s coins. I have few “S” in the 1800s, JFKs, Morgan’s and foreign, but an “S” on a simple Lincoln cent that was in my dad’s pocket, that “S” means special to my collection. Thank you!
I'm confused of this mint mark thing you just posted about? Can you explain what that means in years of lincoln cents or why I have mint marks on lots of my coins
